I've had my pre-cats/exhaust manifolds replaced twice about 8 months apart after CEL's, 3rd tail light used to rattle and my car's sway bar sqeaks on some driveway inclines after a couple track days but I would hardly consider it a lemon.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

hi, I bought my car from manhattan motorcars. It was a leftover 06 CS.. 13 miles on the odometer. On the way home about 20 miles into my drive to delaware the check engine light went on. I've had it at the dealership twice and it keeps coming back on. The highbeams were also flickering when turned on.. My car makes a funny noise when I make a left hand turn.. I took it to brandwine porsche. They put me in an enterprise POS rental car. I'm pretty frustrated.. I absolutely love my car..I've owned primarily Audi's in the past and never had a problem like this. At least when something was wrong with the car they didn't put me in a ford focus. I've read a lot of lemon stories on here and elsewhere on the net.... Has anyone here had any problems like this and had porsche trade you up into an 07? Mike

POST 2Original post

Could be any number of things at this point, let them diagnose it and see if they can fix whatever it is first. This certainly is not something "common" to Caymans at this point.

POST 3Original post

The issue I am having is that they don't know what the problem is. If the car gets to around 90, it cuts off power. Forgot to mention that.. Mike

POST 5Original post

I hear your frustration. I have had my cayman into the dealer 2x already with 670 miles. I'm not impressed with Porsche quality. My BMW has been flawless with 38K miles. Before I had a Toyota. So dealing with the dealer is new to me. And goddamn what is up with Porsche NA not having Porsche Loaners? I didn't buy a dirty smelly Mazda! Very lame. When I go to the BMW dealer for oil changes, (free BTW) they send me away in a BMW till my car is ready. Check to see if Delware has a lemon law. Most lemon laws state that after 3 trips to the dealer in 90 days. You are entitled to a new car. That way you won't have to negoiate with Porsche. Still Porsche will have to make this car right, or give you a new one. Check the warranty papers with the car too. I think Porsche may have a policy too. Be persistant and firm. Let them know that the situation is unaccpetable and you ain't going away. good luck.

POST 6Original post

Those of you upset with your non-Porsche loaners, take my advice and don't buy a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls, or Bentley. You will be disappointed with the loaners. I'm sure some of you will disagree with me, but a lot of people on this board are proud of squeezing the last nickle out of the price by going to any dealer with a left over and then bring their problems to the dealer next door. The excuse is that Porsche has to honor the warranty. Yeah, but how they choose to honor that warranty is up to the dealer. Porsches are not perfect no car is. People believe that because they spent so much money the car should be perfect, but unfortunately the price doesn't guarantee anything. People buy million dollar yachts with flaws that render the boat unseaworthy and there are no lemon laws for boats or yachts. I suggest that you give the dealer a chance to work this out. If this is your only car be glad you have a loaner to drive for free. If the dealer can't fix it, go up the chain of command to PCNA. Stay calm, be polite but firm. If the car gets lemoned out of your hands you may want to stay away from Porsches for a while to put some distance between you and the bad experience. Good luck.

POST 7Original post

Brandywine seems to be a competent shop. Are you able to demonstrate the issues to the techs? I agree to start a ticket with PCNA. I also have to agree with DaveC. What do you expect -- a GT3RS loaner? Brandywine does have 4 Cayenne loaners, but they are for guys who schedule their service and request one of these cars. When my car was in for the hatch issue, they apologized for not having one available for me, and got me Grand Cherokee from the aforementioned Enterprise. BMW does have a nice service plan, but they aren't giving it away either. The cost of the plan is defrayed over all of the cars sold. Out of that large pool only a small percent will have a failure that exceeds the built in price of the plan. The real way they make money, though, is to be sure you will be trudging through a dealership every so often. This all but assures them of a nice profit on your certified pre-owned and that you will be talked into the latest model by your oh so friendly service manager who has undergone training on how to upsell you at 36,000 miles. You buy BMWs after all. If you had bought a car you wanted to drive into the dirt, you'd be at the Honda or Toyota dealership; not getting loaners, no included maintenance and a 3/36 warranty. I am not sure about the laws in DE, but around here we are barraged by 1-800-MY LEMON commercials all the time. If you think you have a lemon issue, call them. I don't think they work for free, but neither do you, right?

POST 8Original post

Just follow my story (lemon ????). You seem to be having the same issues that I've had since January. Goodluck I'm still fighting for a new car nothing more but nothin less. I've contacted my dealer and PCNA many times and they just drag their feet. It's not as easy as some posting make it sound. I've been in a 5 month battle and I've been far to nice. Don't go the nice guy route like I did. Be firm , be tough, and if need be make threats as to lemon laws filing or law suits. I wish I started out that way. Follow my story and I'll keep an eye on yours. Goodluck !!!

Will do.. Will let you know how it turns out... its a shame because the car is so damn beautiful... http://www.mishimoto.com/images/mmnopi.jpg

POST 10Original post

Bummer! A few years ago, I had a Lemon issue with a Lexus CS430. I was patient and gave the dealer six chances to resolve the problem. After it's becoming evident that they can't fix the problem, I seemly talked to their Guest Satisfaction Manager and told her about the Lemon law, as I shown her my documentation about the problem and how patiently I was. She was thankful for my patient and agreed to put me on a brand new car. I don't know about the lemon law in your state, but I would take Ken advice and check it out. Especially with a brand new car with less than 20 miles, I would just ask the dealer to give me a brand new car. Good luck to you and hope everything will works out for you in the end. Ciao, Chaseman

What are they replacing to cure the check engine light each time? I've had my pre-cats/exhaust manifolds replaced twice about 8 months apart after CEL's, 3rd tail light used to rattle and my car's sway bar sqeaks on some driveway inclines after a couple track days but I would hardly consider it a lemon. PCNA will probably tie you up in enough paperwork and callbacks to cost you more time than if you would have just purchased an 07. My dealer in houston (Momentum) has been great even though my car seems to be there every month for inspections or work. They used to do the enterprise thing, but I've gotten a car almost exactly like mine with fresh tires lately.
