Here's the kicker on my new car with just over 3000 mile, Porsche wants to drop the motor now and change the lifters !
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

My guess is that because you have been without the use of your car for so long, and had the same issue so many times, your car may qualify for protection.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Usually they call the dealership and assist the dealership in getting the problem resolved.
Picked up my 06 leftover CS Jan.6TH 07. I have had he light come on 5 times, headlight washers blast off, and a few other minor problems. At the dealership that I purchased the Cs they have been very helpful. My complaint has spent a total of 16-18 days in the shop with no clear resolution yet. I believe Porsche Tech is probably partly to blame. The dealer service dept says theyhaveto follow the steps tech tells them to. With no clear finding I'm becoming frustrated. Do I have a LEMON ? I love my CS but I want my car at home not in the dealerships garage without compensation. In some fleeting moments it make me wish I took a harder look at a Vette, BMW, or Benz !
JUST PLAIN FRUSTRATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Depends on how major/minor the problems and how many times the problems have been addressed with failure to resolve. Inability to drive the car or something that makes the car unsafe to drive would be major by all, but headlight washer failure would be considered minor by most. How far up the chain of command have you gone? There are specific criteria for lemon laws that vary from state to state.
I'm not looking to take advantage of the lemon law, I just am sick of we are not sure, and Porsche Tech has no sure solution. Don't you think that 16-18 days out of less than 90 days of ownership in the shop is unreasonable !
Have you called 1-800-PORSCHE and talked to a customer service representative? It might be best to document your frustration with them and ask them if there is anything they can do on your behalf. Usually they call the dealership and assist the dealership in getting the problem resolved.
Regardless of who your dealership has or has not talked to, you should lodge your complaint with Porsche customer service, failure to do so will only hurt you.
This is different that what K-Man S is talking about. You need to call Porsche now! That's plain ridiculous and if I were in your shoes I'd be pissed big time.
Reported issues to 1-800-PORSCHE today. Lets see what happens now. Thanks for the info. Hopefully this will help straighten out my issues because really, I love driving this car.
Answer to loaner question. Audi A4 2.0 T and Benz C280 two times. Last time I dropped her off for the latest engine light issue I told the service writter to just pull the Turbo Carrera out front for me that has in the garage. I only got a little chuckle out of him.
jpiver,
Please keep us posted as to how this unfolds from here. I am very curious if that call to Porsche will light a fire under their butt.
Personally, it sounds like your car has not received the proper service diagnosis. Service managers will often put lousy techs on the cars owned by reasonable / non-confrontational people, because they can. I'm not sure if this is you or not.
Don't take this the wrong way, but this is what I would do in your shoes.
I would thoroughly research the lemon law criteria in your state. My guess is that because you have been without the use of your car for so long, and had the same issue so many times, your car may qualify for protection.
.
Then I would calmly and respectfully call the Service Manager and ask to schedule an appointment for you to come in and speak to both him and the dealer principal at the same time.
.
I would attend that meeting and very respectfully and professionally tell them, "Look guys. I have been more than patient but I am afraid my patience has come to an end. My car clearly qualifies for lemon law protection based on [.....provide exact qualifier and hand them a printed copy of the lemon law criteria for your state......]. Personally, I would rather not lemon law this car so I am willing to give you one more opportunity to make this car right. I requested this meeting with you because I want to make it crystal clear that if I have to bring this car back one more time for this issue, I intend to seek lemon law protection and will be asking you to buy this car back."
If you do that, I assure you that the dealership will put their very best tech on the car, and if the problem can be solved, it will be solved. If it can't be, then you need another car and the lemon law will help you get one.
Gators sollution is absolutely the best answer, you are giving them the oppurtunity to make good while at the same time invoking a vision of their far worst nightmare if they do not.
Also Porsche is supposed to contact me today if their 24 hour return call period is reality. 17 days and counting in the shop for a RETURN TO SHOP check engine light !
Well Porsche hasn't called yet, but I just got off the phone with the dealer.
Apparently calling Porsche kind of shook things up. Porsche told the dealer to replace the control module which should stop the misfires and engine light.
Let's hope that's it. Part needs to be overnighted. Another weekend with a loaner car. Not happy but hope it works.
Any feedback on what's being replaced would be appreciated.
I just got a call from my dealer , and he says that Porsche feels it's ok to release my car back to me today.(isn't that nice of them) I haven't discussed what they have done yet, would rather do that in person when I pick it up . If this dosen't do it then I will be forced to proceed with my legal rights under Mass.Lemon Laws for a replacement CS. Hopefully this will be my last post on this subject. If I have any future problems with this issue I'll post it for all to see. The only thing that kind of bugs me is that 48 hours later and still not even a customer relations call from Porsche Atlanta.
I don't think you'll get a call from Atlanta. Maybe a couple of weeks from now to follow up, but not right away. They don't want to make the dealer look bad.
I think you will find that Porsche leaned on them pretty hard to make your car right. I am also hoping that we won't be hearing back from you on this.
Thanks Gator Bite ! Knowone would like to bury this subject as much as I would. Let's hope in the next couple of weeks that I can post on a new and happier subject.
Just got back from the dealer with my CS. After 1 week in the shop (mon.-mon.) all that was done is , change oil & filter , perforn diagnostic per p-tech, check grounds , swap plugs on coil , check injectors, & clean connections at DME. Here's the kicker on my new car with just over 3000 mile, Porsche wants to drop the motor now and change the lifters ! At this point I said no and that all I wanted was a new car at equal value. My thought is that if this car is ever Carfaxed and this work shows up on the report then couldn't it drop the value of this vehicle. I'm trying to play hard ball now but still in a nice manor. What would any of you do ?
Changing the lifters is no biggie. If they suggest it I'd do it in a heartbeat. There have plenty of larger issues handled under warranty that have not impacted the re-sale value. I would ask them "why" Porsche feels this is required first however.
Changing the lifters isn't going to show up on a CarFax. If they want to do it, then let them do it, but I would ask "why" and of course point out to them that this is just one more trip into the shop for the same problem which they have yet to fix. How many trips for the same problem does Mass law require before the lemon law kicks in? In my state it is 4. On my 996 C4S I had a recurring coolant leak that on the 4th time I told them get it right, or Lemon Law kicks in. Guess what, they got it right! No more leaks after that.
If you are at or beyond the threshold for the Lemon Law in your state then it is up to you to pursue that route or not. I had an intake lifter replaced but I could hear it and it went bad around 2,000 miles I think, everything has been fine since.
