Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The second thing he picked up on was that the Engine breather pipe was split, I dont have any issues when driving the car or any smoke on start-up but I will get this part replaced when I try and attempt the Belt tensioner.

Basically if you undo the oil cap then run the car you will feel what a large air leak to the crankcase pressure will do .run the car for 10 miles like this and you will soon get an eml on .

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
Hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather..! Bit warm like
I sent my 2003 996 c4s in for a major service and wanted to ensure the belt was changed.
Anyways the mechanic - a Porsche "specialist" told me at the end of the day that that tensioner had seized and was unable to get the belt off so he just did an inspection and checked the "inspection" done checkbox in the book.
The belt looks to me in pretty good condition, doesn't squeal or make any funny noises so I was wondering if I should drive the car at all on the current tensioner in its seized position or should I drive it, but get it replaced as soon as possible.
The second thing he picked up on was that the Engine breather pipe was split, I dont have any issues when driving the car or any smoke on start-up but I will get this part replaced when I try and attempt the Belt tensioner. Is this safe to drive in the current situation?
Can someone please clarify if this is the part being referred to:

I know I should be asking the mechanic that did the service but for some reason he didn't inspire much confidence....I'm sure he is great at what he does, I just dont think I shall be returning.
Thank you in advance
It's always depressing to hear that a customer is not satisfied with a garages work .. i try to do the best for my trade and often find communication between customer and garage helps ... they may well have just been busy and didn't have the chance to explain things as they would normally perhaps .
Your faults .. tensioner seized on one of these is unusual .. i've not seen it .. i've had it wont turn to release the belt as the pulley is slightly loose .. the bolt we use to slacken these basically turns .. you have to use a spanner on the back side as well as the front .. it's a pain to be honest but they will then move .
Seized and a new tensioner unit is required .. i can't say much here as i cant see your car .. 997 which does have tensioner issues and it's something that needs sorting sooner rather than later .. your car and i'm dubious as to how bad it is ....
In short a seized tensioner will put a lot of strain on the belt .. it should move .. thereby altering the tension to keep it at a set rate .
For me .. it would be a red item if it was seized .
Again i can't see your car so i'm guessing .
Split breather pipe .. yes i would assume that was the one , there are others though .. the problem is that it will allow air ingress to the crankcase .. as this gas is reused you will end up with a weak mixture ..
This can be seen on the fueling adaptations as the car tries to add more fuel to compensate for an air leak .. depending on how bad the split is then the higher the adaptations will be .
Basically if you undo the oil cap then run the car you will feel what a large air leak to the crankcase pressure will do .run the car for 10 miles like this and you will soon get an eml on .
Both items are dependent on how bad they are .. which i cant say im afraid .. only the garage inspecting the car can .. breather pipe may well just be oil damp in places which doesn't really need attention for now .
