Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I removed the POT from the clamshell drive behind the seats and used Mole grips on my old clamshell drive square shaft to turn the clamshell drive manually, with the drive motor disconnected.

Suggestion

If you use this, you're supposed to replace the shaft it sits on as this can and is designed to twist to stop damage to other parts.

Suspected cause

When my roof needed diagnosis, the issue was the potentiometer on the clamshell drive not showing the correct voltage once up, so the roof ECU wouldn't let the roof move, as it thought the clamshell wasn't fully up.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Help I opened the roof earlier today and now it won't close.. The clam shell opens but the roof will not go up.. How do I manually close it . The owners manual is as clear as mud in its explanation..... Thanks

POST 2Original post

First, you'll need to remove the panels behind the rear seats. There's a bleed screw for the hydraulics on the left of centre. This can be undone with a hex and the roof can be manhandled up. There is also a Shiny round metal large screw with another hex, which is the manual release for the clamshell. If you use this, you're supposed to replace the shaft it sits on as this can and is designed to twist to stop damage to other parts. I removed the POT from the clamshell drive behind the seats and used Mole grips on my old clamshell drive square shaft to turn the clamshell drive manually, with the drive motor disconnected. When my roof needed diagnosis, the issue was the potentiometer on the clamshell drive not showing the correct voltage once up, so the roof ECU wouldn't let the roof move, as it thought the clamshell wasn't fully up. Wen lowering with this fault, it lets it move half way then stops as the clamshell POT had not reached the calibrated voltage required for "Clamshell fully up". There are, I think 6 different voltage levels between fully up and fully down, so the roof ECU can tell clamshell position and whether it's safe to move or continue to move the roof. You need PIWIS2 really to diagnose properly though as there are lots of prerequisites for the roof to operate, such as speed, handbrake, clamshell position etc, let alone there being enough fluid in the hydraulic pump.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that..Once the rear panel behind the seats was removed and I discovered the location of the elusive Allen key.. it was fairly straight forward to get it back up.. Much to my relief

POST 4Original post
