Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace resistor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace resistor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If engine temp increases and a couple of other parameters are met, both fans should run on high speed simultaneously.

Suggestion
There are some really useful YouTube videos on replacement and testing via the relays near the fuse box.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I had the air con condensers replaced this weekend by an aircon specialist and he noted that when up to temp only the drivers side fan kicked in.....should the nearside radiator fan kick in simultaneously or does it kick in at some other defined point?
If its faulty, is it an easy change?
Thanks
They should both kick in as soon as ther aircon is switched on. I'm guessing the driver's side is fine but the ballast resistor on the passenger side has failed. It's a very common fault on these. Easy job to change the resistor. You can swap them over to see if it is that. They're not cheap though but you can get one for under £20 from the likes of RS and do a DIY fit as they're not the same but do the same job.
If the drivers side only kicked in when the engine was up to temp, it suggests that neither are working at low speed (usually a ballast) and only one at high speed...as the high speed bypasses the ballast then it seems the passenger fan isn't working at all. Not uncommon and you should address ASAP. You will need to trouble shoot the wiring and connections but looks like one dud ballast and one dud fan.
As Alex says once the engine is running and air con is on (and possibly -
Ambient temperature above a certain temp but that isn't an issues at the moment in the UK) both fans should run at low speed which is governed by the ballasts. If engine temp increases and a couple of other parameters are met, both fans should run on high speed simultaneously.
