Finally they got one and replaced it for me, bottom line is there is BS around the tray - it can be replaced easily for hardly any cost.

Suggestion · Original poster

This 996TT is 414bhp as standard but we are looking at changing the headers and also exhaust system then running it up on the rolling road with a live map, looking for around 510bhp out of the standard 996 with just the exhaust and headers.

Vehicle before was a Audi TT 1.8 pushing 380bhp with a full engine rebuild using forge conrods and low compression pistons which enabled me to fit a large GT2860RS Turbo

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just buying the above vehicle and the rear wing is stuck in the up position. Is this a simple fix and a common problem on the 996? Regards Westy

POST 2Original post

not a common fault AFAIK, I take it the switch on the dash has no effect?

POST 3Original post

No come across it before. Might be worthwhile checking the fuses over. Has the dash light come on for the rear spoiler? (Although it may only show up when the spoiler doesn't raise).

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Picking the vehicle up this Wednesday evening so will give the fuses a check and also asses it more. I've just bought the vehicle knowing it has this problem and also the phone sim card holder doesn't stay in.

POST 5Original post

Where are you buying the car from? Personally I would get the vendor to resolve the issue as I think it could be a pricey fix if not covered under warranty. It is a buyers market at the moment and I would only buy one in perfect order

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting the vehicle cheap mate. its a 03 plate mint condition 996 TT for only 32k so if I have to spend a few grand fixing this problem it isn't to much. Hopefully I'll be able to find and fix the fault myself as I've over 19year mechanical experience until I opened my own diagnostics / remapping garage. Will know more when I pick the vehicle up, will do a write up if I do fix this wing. Regards Westy

POST 7Original post

If you need any help with the SIM card tray let me know. I had the same problem when I bought my car from a dealership, they said they would fix it free but that turned into a replacement unit for £2500. After all the BS I pointed out a company on the internet that make the replacement trays for about £25 including shipping. Finally they got one and replaced it for me, bottom line is there is BS around the tray - it can be replaced easily for hardly any cost. I just don't have the details to hand, buy can dig them out if you want.

POST 8Original post

Makes perfect sense then. Enjoy the car they really are superb. Will be interesting what tweaks you make to it with your experience. What have you come from?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Vehicle before was a Audi TT 1.8 pushing 380bhp with a full engine rebuild using forge conrods and low compression pistons which enabled me to fit a large GT2860RS Turbo We spent over 18k on this vehicle and used it as a company demo but now have the 996TT to play with. This 996TT is 414bhp as standard but we are looking at changing the headers and also exhaust system then running it up on the rolling road with a live map, looking for around 510bhp out of the standard 996 with just the exhaust and headers. After that god knows, just depends on how flexible the old visa is ;-)

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Really could do with details on this if you could dig them out for us. I'll be pulling it apart as soon as we have the vehicle in our workshop and assess what part has broken. Replacement tray @ £25 would be a bonus. Regards
