Starting a month ago sometimes the starter spinning up the engine with difficulties, sometimes like no problem. Could be both on the same day. I thought at first that the battery (2y.o) is dying and took my 2006
Boxster
to local dealer but they checked the battery with a Porsche tester said the battery is OK. Fully charged the battery 3 times over the last few weeks. Today the engine had started OK np at first, then on a first stop with difficulties, like the starter turned the camshaft, then stopped, then spinned it 3 times more then the ignition started. Then on another stop the engine stared up no problem, then 2 times as I described in the above, then in a few hrs on the same day and same battery started up again 2 times like no problem. Anybody seen such a behavior?
Could be the Emissions Purge Valve failing. Mine does it if I don't get the car up to full operating temp. For instance, the other day I took it for a short 3 mile drive to a restaurant. Although the temp was just getting to where it needed to be, after picking up to go order I returned to the car and couldn't get it to start. When it does this it takes 2-3 cranks and I have to apply a healthy amount of throttle pumping like its carbureted. There is several threads here regarding this issue.
FWIW... Sometimes if I stopped my engine and tried to restart it immediately, it will not start, just crank. A Porsche mechanic said to remove the key and start it again, this worked every time! This would happen only when the engine was hot.
My car did it all of the times when the engine is fully warmed up. I noticed it is not doing it on a cold engine. But, I'll take the valve off the upcoming weekend and clean it up. We'll see.
Opened everything up. The vent valve is located inside of the left airbox. To get to it the throttle needs to be taken out and the left airbox. The valve is screwed to the airbox on the inner side by a clamp which is holding its' hose. Taking off the throttle body is relatively easy but seems taking out the airbox could be a pain. I ended up just replugging the electrical connector to the valve hoping for the best. Driven the car afterwords today and making a 1 stop. The engine wasn't acting up today on cranking while being hot.
