Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I will have to send the car for a major service soon, since its my first service in a OPC, if I ask them to check the clutch and/or syncros, do I have to pay for that ?

However in order to ascertain the problem the engine and gearbox need taking out and if they are out you may as well replace the clutch.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there,
I use my Porsche daily ; from time to time ( lets say every two weeks ) the clutch seems to slip, ie, I engage first gear, release the clutch but the car just accelerates ( the noise ) but wont move. Like the gear is not engaged - actually looks more like if you were pressing the clutch full and the accelerator as well. basically the car wont move. simple taking the gear off and then on again ( if this happens when engaging second gear, put in neutral and then second again ) will sort this out.
So I did some research and this can be due to :
worn syncros
worn clutch
both
ideas from the experts ? my car has the Porsche extended warranty ( its a 2000 turbo ) , are the syncros and/or clutch replacement included in this ? or is part of the wear & tear section and therefore not covered ? if not covered I will be looking at how much ?
I will have to send the car for a major service soon, since its my first service in a OPC, if I ask them to check the clutch and/or syncros, do I have to pay for that ?
Sorry for all the questions
To be honest, it doesnt bother me much ( a 2 seconds neutral/gear again solves the issue ) , and usually only happens in either 1st or 2nd gear. If I recall never happened in other gears.
Cheers
A worn clutch is obviously wear and tear and wont be covered. It sounds like you have already searched on here for syncro's and turbo. It gets mentioned a few times. I think Dave had his go, and it was fixed under warranty (might have got clutch replaced at same time to save on labour costs). Hopefully he will be along soon to comment on the symptoms he encountered.
My synchro problem resulted in the car jumping out of second gear when not under power. This required a new input shaft (first and second gears come fixed to this) and a complete gearbox rebuild. This was an expensive job c£4k but thankfully covered under warranty.
Having just spoken to my friendly OPC technician your problem sounds more clutch related as opposed to gearbox/transmission related. However in order to ascertain the problem the engine and gearbox need taking out and if they are out you may as well replace the clutch. Chances are it is the clutch that is beginning to go but not definate and this is where your dilema is. As I see it you have 3 options
1. Do nothing and live with it until it gets worse
2. Get the OPC to investigate and hope it is something to do with the synchro and therefore covered under the warranty. Worse case is that they say you need a new clutch and you are left with a bill for about £2200.
3. Take it to a good Indie (Northway Parr etc) and pay £1400 to have the clutch replaced and hope that this cures the problem.
Best of luck with it
