, but get SC so I could use normal mode with no farting, and Sport+ with more sound and no farting.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is a 4s cab and more like an informercial than a review. But it does have some sound clips starting at 1.40 for a minute and then at 20.40 for a couple of minutes. Quite loud and the farting is minimized even in sport mode.
What do you guys think with your NA
911s
? It sounds like a flat six to me. And what I will need to live with. The one I drove had the SE and the dealer did not have any without the SE and MT.

LOL, that guy is an idiot. I watched his review of a
981
before I bought and it made me laugh. He spent more time on the hill-hold and the auto-restart than he did on the engine or suspension.
I think it sounds fine - especially at idle. Full throttle, not so much unless you like more quiet exhausts. I've driven a couple of 991.2s (on track and at dealership with and without
PSE
). Inside the cabin I thought it sounded fantastic with either exhaust. Outside not so much but I like louder exhausts (I listened to them on a track
next
to a 991.1
GTS
and
GT4
) NAs sounded way better to me.
Since you don't like loud exhausts, you might want to plug the two symposer tubes. One is always open, the second opens up in sport/sport+ mode. Some
911
guys have done this.
Good to know. I have only driven
PSE
-equipped cars with the MT because all the cars at the dealer had the SE with the MT.
I don't even have my car and already I am getting uneasy about the turbo engine and the sound. Inside the cars were quite loud even with the SE off and I don't need it louder. The reality of not having my
Boxster S
for good is sinking in now and I hope I haven't messed up. Whenever I think of my car sitting in a garage for six months, I am reassured I did the right thing. Damn, it is hard not to have my sports car in decent weather. Once I have my car I am sure things will be fine. This waiting is slowly making me more and more anxious and I am imagining the worst. That I have ordered an awd
Audi
.
I suspect the extra loud inside the car with
PSE
off is the symposer. The 991.1 I spent some time with was similar. Windows up it was a bit loud and unnatural. Windows down and
PSE
on it sounded quite good. It's my understanding that the symposer can be plugged. The ports were under the rear window IIRC. It's seems unlikely they would be moved. I suggest relaxing and waiting for the car to come. See what it sounds like then.
LOL, a few days ago you weren't missing your
Boxster
at all and were worried! You will be fine and I am quite jealous of your
911
. No possible way you will be anything but delighted with the new wheels.
It sounds ok in normal mode...not great, but OK. It would sound a WHOLE lot better running in manual mode and not letting
PDK
shift at 3000 RPM. Sounds much nicer in Sport mode...and then the farting ruins it. If it were me, I'd skip
PSE
, but get SC so I could use normal mode with no farting, and Sport+ with more sound and no farting.
After going and forth about five times and in the process driving my sales guy crazy, I finally unchecked the
PSE
option. I just can't stand how the backfiring is accentuated with it. Mine is the standard exhaust like in the video and I ordered the MT.
Have the standard exhaust on a base 991.2 C2 with SC. Here is my take on the sound.
In comfort mode it's pretty quiet and the exhaust doesn't burble and unless I'm wrong only one sound symposer is open thus channeling engine noise into the cabin from behind the rear seats.
In Sport mode: the exhaust now backfires. With the windows up, these backfire feel like a thumping sensation coming from behind. With the windows down it sounds like subdued burble or fart. Also both sound symposers are now open and thus the cabin is louder from within (I'm not sure the exhaust becomes louder). Side note: my previous 2.7
981 Cayman
with the standard exhaust had more enjoyable backfires rather than "farty burbles".
Sport plus is similar to sport mode: both sound symposers are open however the burbles are switched off.
Compared to the
981
the 991.2 has significantly less tire and wind noise (both are 19inch standard rims though the rears on the 991.2 are wider) and thus much more tolerable for long distance/highway use.
If you find the sound coming from the symposer annoying there are a few DIY youtube videos on how to plug them. That being said, I don't find the contribution from the symposers disingenuous unlike the "soundaktor" found in the GTI or speaker noise in certain BMWs.
Thank you. I like the sound of the new
911
inside the cabin. It is pleasant, you can hear the flat six and it is plenty loud for me. Outside, I couldn't care less. Actually, I would rather that it not be loud and attract attention and annoy people.
