Exhaust tips

Having fitted the Agency power mufflers to my 996, the tips sit high and almost touch the rear bumper. They are also looking very tired and a little weedy. I know that the 997 tips are different but I have been offered a set of dual chrome tips for a 997 C2 at sensible money, is there no way of making them work??

Hi My suggestion is to get someone to fabricate up 2x 1" Spacers. These will replicate the flanged joints you have on the exit to the muffler and the entry to the Tips, but giving you an extra 1" of "drop" before you assemble the Tips. You will need another pair of the "olives" (the triangular section rings that the flanges clamp up to) and another pair of clamps. With the lower outlet this will probably give you more flexibility for fitting the Tips of your choice without fouling the bumper flanged notches for the Tip exits. I tried some 997 brushed tips on my Turbo's Milltek - they do bolt straight on, but sadly the big nasty welds are left on show

Hi Bob, many thanks for the reply - it did not make sense originally, but now does thank you I am now considering switching to some aftermarket dual tips to replace the pea shooters and some of the ebay ones look as if they have some more "adjustability" in them as they need to be part fabricated. Anyone tried them or have anything sitting around?

Ended up ordering some Schnell dual tips from the US as they are such sensible money due to the dollar exchange rate. Will update the thread again once they are fitted.....

Dont forget the before/after picts... as they say - :useless: Might convince me change them as well!

Right - Schnell tips arrived no problem, landed from the US at just over £105, so cheaper than the Taiwan Ebay jobbies. The quality looks really good. Fitting was fiddly but actually easier than expected and I am really pleased with the results (yes I know it needs a good clean, I have been too busy enjoying it )

Cheers - really pleased with them I bought them from www.vertexauto.com , quality seems superb and they bolted straight on without any modification at all. There is a moderate amount of adjustability as you fit them and as they need to sit fairly flush with the top of the bumper to look right, the "lift" my agency power system gives them is fine.

What about these? They are 997 Carrera 4S tail pipes and complete mufflers with PSE handwork done (similar to this pic) I left the 997 cans in a welding shop to get the mod done last week. They told me to go there to install them in my car. I had a 997 C4S cans from a friend of mine. They had to do a little change to fit them in the correct place and changing the end 997's doble pipes to fit in my rear defense. The 997 cans' end pipe have 35 cm distance from the starting corner. If you don't cut the pipe to 25 cm (like 996 cans), they will appear in the centre of the rear defense, (more or less like a BMW M3). They have to cut 10 cm to assemble the final pipe in the rear bumper holes. Incredible sound!!! 997 C4S mufflers works perfectly in a 996 Carrera 3.6!!!!!!!! It's best mod I've ever done in my car. Great pictures guys. I think I marginally prefer the twin pipes to the Schnell overlap pipes but would love to see a couple more pics of Chauch's car "in the field" as it were. Any chance Chauch of a couple more pics, they do look the business. And Im taking it the postage element was about £30 from the US? Cheers Andrew

I have emailed vertex.com about a set of quad turbo piipes for my 996TT and they seem a very friendly bunch, reply was very prompt. Quoted me $54 for freight from the US so about right.

Hi guys, these are described as being for 3.4 cars. Mines a 3.6. Is there any difference in the exhaust system for the 3.4? Dont want to order these and find they dont fit. Link to page is here. Hi Andrew, apologies, still no pictures - I will take some soon I promise! I think the 3.6 does use different tips to the 3.4. It is worth asking Vertex what they can offer for yours, I found them very helpful in response to my enquiries...

Chauch, I take it your car is a 3.4? I have emailed Vertexauto and asked them about fitting to a 3.6 and will post their reply. I was also in contact with autodienst in Germany as I intend to change the cans too for a sportier sound and they say the fit is the same for 3.6s and 3.4s. Vertexauto also sell a quad exhaust which fits both so cant see what the problem would be. Your tips do look the dogs. Its hard to see from the rear photo if the pipes are 'overlapped' or more like side by side twin pipes. Look forward to the photos
