I let it cool down for a bit and I checked the cap, it was on pretty tight.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, The other day (which was quite hot), I was coming home in my 996 C4S, and the guy behind told me that green fluid was leaking from the back of my car. I was seconds away from my house so soon as I got home, I stopped, popped the boot and I could see coolant coming out of the header tank via the cap. I let it cool down for a bit and I checked the cap, it was on pretty tight. Oddly, I could see green specs in the left exhaust tip as well. When I tried to start the car now, the warning light was flashing on the temperature gauge. Porsche came and took it away the next day. After inspection and topping up the coolant, they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with the header tank or any other part of the cooling system. They did say my air conditioning needed re gassing but I'm not sure that was related. I will be getting it back within the next couple of days but I am worried that it's going to happen again. Any advice of whats wrong? Thanks, Surjit

POST 2Original post

older 996's suffer from hairline cracks in the header tank. mine went the other day so is being replaced. the flashing red light is for low coolant. should be OK if the OPC have checked it out. TB

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its a late 2003 one. Porsche did check the header tank and couldn't find any problems. I was more worried about the head gasket (or head) hence the specs in the left exhaust tip. Guess I'll just have to see if it happens again.
