What about if the check pulls up any problems and they won't warranty until that's fixed, will he pay for that too?

He has agreed to put one on and put it through th 111 check if need be but would I need it with the already running warranty on the engine?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been to see a C4S which I like but there are a few things that are bugging me with it. First thing is it is an 02 car with the PCM unit and telephone which is great, but I hate the tape player on the top of the screen! How easy would it be to change it? Secondly, it has the "thin" gear lever (I'm sure you know what I mean) and the leather around the top is really badly worn and scratched (from a ring I presume), how easy tho change this? Finally, as you would have seen from my previous post, it has had a new engine fitted by Porsche 3 months ago. The seller has told me this is covered by a 2 year warranty but the car does not have an "official" OPC warranty. He has agreed to put one on and put it through th 111 check if need be but would I need it with the already running warranty on the engine? The actual car has done 58k miles you see. It is a lot cheaper than most at £33k, but I have a budget of £40k so is it really worth me compromising on this one? Cheers lads, and sorry for spamming with tedious questions! I'm sure you all remember how hard it was when looking for your first porker! Once I've actually got one I'm sure I'll be a vat of knowledge and help others on the board

POST 2Original post

Yes get the OPC warranty, if for no other reason than peace of mind. Gearlver pulls off, new one pushes on. Easy! Not sure about the tape player, they still had tape players in 2002? If you love that car then go for it. Otherwise there are plenty more out there.

POST 3Original post

If the seller is willing to pay for the 111 points check AND the warranty you're looking at aprox £1200, that's a fairly hefty bill he's footing... What about if the check pulls up any problems and they won't warranty until that's fixed, will he pay for that too? If so and you get a C4S with a new engine, warranty and points fixed for 33k that's a pretty damn good bargain. What miles does it have? Would still have it PPI'd by someone reputable though, after all the £300-350 it would cost still puts it well within your budget. My friend just bought an 02 C2 which still had PCM1 with the tape player. It was massively optioned from the factory so I guess that was state of the art in 2002 :floor: To replace means buying a whole new unit, there's loads of info on aftermarket ones which with a bit of modification to the surround will slot in. :thumb:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers for the replies The gear lever seems to be part of the gaiter? The leather runs up from the gaiter and around the lever or so it looks? The car has done over 50k miles and I cant really see the seller paying to put right anything that the OPC would find wrong with the car, eg if the brakes needed doing that could be a grand straight away?

POST 5Original post

Yes, although the brake wear wouldn't stop OPC offering a warranty. RMS, MAF or cracked coils would though.

POST 6Original post

Yep. That whole piece pulls away. The plastic tabs can break though so pull with care unless you intend to just chuck that part away. Think that is what you have. And what you are swapping in.

POST 7Original post

Ironically, the PCM1 is a bit ancient, but you can get aftermarket discs to get the mapping bang up to date, which is more than you can say for the newer PCM2 which is no longer supported by Porsche. If you can have the wty put on, then do. The new engine's a bonus though... My 4S has done 53k miles, and feels great- its way under 10k miles p.a after all. If its a good car, and the money's right (which it sounds like it is) then I wouldn't say its worth shelling out more for a lower miles one for the sake of it.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers lads After further inspection of car I have realised that there is a very small dent on the door and a bit of rust appearing where the passenger door has been hit against another car :frustrated: It just doesn't feel right to go for it. Plus, I REALLY should sell my CSL before jumping in
