Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My car defaults to starting with Auto start/stop--"ON" However once I use the console button to disable this function, the car "remembers" this setting and it thereafter always starts with this function "OFF".
Leading evidence: 'Use console button' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set "' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I leave it thus, much like down shifting to use compression braking as opposed to the wheel brakes, in the belief that wear and tear on the starter motor and associated equipment is more detrimental to the car than using the brakes, or letting the engine idle at traffic signals.

Choosing to use a feature like this is one thing (desirable); having to manually disable it every time you start up a $100k+ sports car is just plain stupid.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did not know (obviously) about the restart sans starter motor (Thanks D&D), but I'm still not enamored with the concept so mine will stay "OFF".
Is it true that
Porsche
cars now have the Auto start-stop feature activated by default, and you must manually disable it every time you start the car? On my 2013
Boxster
, you could disable it once, and the car would recall that setting whenever it was restarted. If it is "on" by default, is there a way to deactivate it, say with programming or by removing a fuse or a connector to a switch or sensor? Thanks in advance.
My dealer told me that the 2017
911s
all have the start-stop default to "ON". Some posts claim that this started with 2016 model year cars; my 2013
Boxster S
let me permanently disable it. I wonder why it can be disabled permanently in some cars, but not in others?
Someone, somewhere has got to know why it can be permanently disabled in some cars, but not in others! I fail to get why
Porsche
allows you to disable it whenever the car is started, but not on a permanent basis??
The reason it can't be disabled now has to do with EPA testing. If the car model was certified worth auto start stop on, it must be activated when starting the car. The
cayenne
was the first model, the 2015 I believe.

If that is indeed the case, why have several 2016 owners (like Curtis above) been able to disable it? Does anyone know if the function is controlled by a specific circuit or fuse in these cars?
I believe the 6 cylinder model was the first one to have it on mandatory. I have gone through multiple tries of coding and programming with the
piwis tester
to no avail. Maybe the aftermarket can find a work around with programming.

I'd be willing to pay for any sort of workaround. That feature is just a plain joke in a sports car. Jaguar has it enabled in the FType, but you can easily disable it by unplugging one connector in the trunk.
Interesting about Speedgirl’s 2014 always defaulting to ON; my 2014 BS starts up with it OFF. I can’t remember if it’s always been that way or it just remembered my last setting.
I read a few posts that stated that the ability to disable the feature was linked to having the memory seat package. I had that on my car, and it permanently was off, but it seems something may have changed in some cars built for MY 2016. Who knows?
I have a 2013
981
BS and the feature is disabled in the sport mode. Actually I like having the ability to activate it, since there are traffic lights in certain areas that I drive that have intervals as long as four minutes. Having the engine off for four minutes is my small contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and gasoline consumption.
Choosing to use a feature like this is one thing (desirable); having to manually disable it every time you start up a $100k+ sports car is just plain stupid. These cars use premium gas, and are tuned for performance, not fuel economy. if its economy I want to pay for, I'll buy a Prius. Or even a

Allow me to elaborate in view of all the comments. My car defaults to starting with Auto start/stop--"ON" However once I use the console button to disable this function, the car "remembers" this setting and it thereafter always starts with this function "OFF". I leave it thus, much like down shifting to use compression braking as opposed to the wheel brakes, in the belief that wear and tear on the starter motor and associated equipment is more detrimental to the car than using the brakes, or letting the engine idle at traffic signals. I realize this is not the "Green" approach.

An side thought.... what IF Volkswagen had provided a "switch" for "performance" that defaulted the emission test cycle settings... so the car was "defaulted" to the "legal" cycle... but then allowed the driver to switch to the "performance" emission settings -- sounds like our auto-start set to "on" unless the driver wants the performance the car was purchased for??? Hmmm... hind-sight is always better, but what if??
PS... FWIW, my 2015
Cayman
does not have power seats --- it has the simple two-way sport plus seats standard in the
GTS
trim... yet once I turn the auto-stop switch to "on"-- eg. the console lighted switch is light -- it stays that way until I physically turn it "off" to allow auto start-stop. If the 2016 models are different I cannot say.
W/r to wear and tear on the starter --- the system does not use the starter. The motor stops at specific rotation
points
and for "re-start" simply spurts a bit of fuel in the appropriate cylinder and fires the
plug
-- spinning the motor enough to start the motor. The system needs the motor to be at a specific minimum operating temp for it to work... that's why with the system engaged, it will not stop-start when cold. This per a detailed discussion with staff at the dealer --- FWIW.

Yes. Greens are winning on all fronts, and new Porsches will default to ON,as they already do in some EU countires. I already have a customer who is waiting for
911
, confirmed by dealer to default to ON. He wants to do start/stop mod (default OFF) immediately upon car arrival in May. But somebody can beat him to that...
I'm pretty sure it can be easily done for start/stop as I do it for sport mode. But I didn't try yet. So if somebody wants to participate in experiment - contact me.
My 2016
GTS
is exactly like D&D's and I have the two-way seats also.
I did not know (obviously) about the restart sans starter motor (Thanks D&D), but I'm still not enamored with the concept so mine will stay "OFF".
