Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

39 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi all My 991.2 GTS insurance is due 10/2/24 Currently with Manning Uk who have just quoted £945 (with active tracker which costs approximately £200 p/a) £1573 (without active tracker) I’m 52 with full no claims 1 sp30 in September 2020 The car is garaged and there’s a 5000 mile limitation I have along history of driving performance cars This seems totally absurd it was £700 last year with active tracker Can anyone recommend a more competitive company or is this really where we’re at? Thanks Ric

POST 2Original post

I think it's a case of ringing around unfortunately.... I read that applying 26 days out (or something like that) is the optimum time to get a quote. I've just insured a couple of cars and saved £600 by switching from Direct Line to Admiral - but obviously every situation is different.

POST 3Original post

I thought Adrian Flux were having a laugh when they presented me with a renewal increase proposal of 34% to just over £1k for a 991 C4S cab. It’s rural postcode, restricted mileage but has some business mileage included, garaged, 2 named drivers over 60 with full NCBs but no tracker needed. I shopped around and couldn’t beat it even with requirement of having tracker subscription. No way was I carrying a second fob as I have to have already for Cayenne (“as they get stolen to ram raid”)which is on business fleet.

POST 5Original post

LV was good for me when I insured my 18 reg 991.2 Targa 4 GTS in 2021 ( I sold the car at the end of December 2021 and am waiting for prices of high-end cars to drop further before buying another car May/June of this year). I paid £189.00, which was over £1000 less than the quote I got from a broker I had used for a number of years. In 2021 I was 63, had 40 plus years of NCB (Though LV only give you credit for a max of 9 years NCB) and confirmed that the car could be taken to a Porsche dealer for repair if it was on their list of approved repairers. If the repairer was not on the list for that year (It changes yearly), I would have had to pay £150.00 if I wanted to use a repairer of my choice. My total excess was £1000 ( £400 plus £600 voluntary). Oh, and LV insure the car not the driver so anybody over 25 was able to drive it fully comprehensive. To maintain ny NCB ( It falls by the wayside if it is not used within 2 years), I insured my son's 66 reg Porsche Boxster in October 2023 with LV and that cost me £255.00- an increase of £40 compared to what my son paid to insure the car the previous October. Ivan I meant to add that I had to activate the tracker at a yearly cost of around £150 as the car was at the time, and probably still is, worth more than £80K Edited by Hereandthere on Wednesday 17th January 19:04

POST 6Original post

Renewed on my air cooled 911 with Chubb in Dec, same premium as last year. Track days covered for those who are struggling with that.

POST 7Original post

I recommend: Direct Line, LV - I previously used each of them for my 996 Admiral - I use them for my 992, I found few insurers would cover a vehicle of value > £100k

POST 8Original post

You in PCGB, worth trying Locktons. I was braced for a 25% increase based on expected contemporary data, lucked out and a mere £20 increase apx 2.5%.

POST 9Original post

NFU worth a call but make sure you ring an office not their central number for the best quote. NFU changed their policy a couple of years back by insisting on tracker for cars worth over c£75k. FAIK Admiral are the only insurers who currently do not insist on tracker on higher end stuff.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all Appreciate the advice I’ll get on the blower tomorrow Love the pistonheads community 🙏

POST 11Original post

If you are in PCGB and attend their events, Admiral exclude these events, which is a bit la la. But they are cheap.

POST 12Original post

Switched to the Locktons PCGB scheme this week; competitive price, no tracker required, agreed value (self certified up to I think £150k), choice of repairer, OEM windscreen replacement and a bunch of other fringe benefits. Aviva are the underwriter and I could have renewed direct with them for virtually no increase at a significantly lower cost but I wanted to switch to a policy that was more aligned to the car. If you go for a mainstream insurer you will (perhaps) pay less but you definitely won’t get the same level of cover so caveat emptor. I tried all the usual suspects and there was a wide variation in prices and or conditions so unfortunately you probably do need to dedicate some time to renewing.

POST 13Original post

Just renewed with Locktons & was pleasantly surprised they were slightly cheaper than last year. Had been bracing myself for a massive, inflationary rise You could also try Insure with Porsche who provide the OPC drive-away insurance. Underwritten by Chubb. https://www.insurewithporsche.co.uk/

POST 15Original post

RicM5 said: Porsche insurance £1916 Admiral next I had to go Admiral in the end last week . I’ve got a 991.2 Targa gts Last year I paid £475 with Carol Nash , this year went with Admiral and paid £550. I’m 53 max no claims , no points on my licence etc , 3000 miles a year as I never do more than that , my tracker is also inactive and I’ve never actually activated a tracker for any car I’ve owned .

I'm in the process of doing a renewal now. Axa last year c£450, now asking c£1,500 - clearly they don't want to insure cars like mine. Admiral £680 for similar cover.

There were cheaper but you find out the really cheap insurance is really cheap for a reason.

POST 21Original post

I just renewed my insurance with Admiral. It was £725 fully comp on a 991.1 valued at 50K with 5K miles a year estimated. This was significantly less that last year. I live in London and have 9 points (6 within the 5 year rule) and 3 still current. I have a claim for fire damage to my last car in 2023 for 10K. Last year I was quoted twice the amount for the same car. I have noticed a big change in insurance premiums this year. Last year my wife’s GTI was twice what it was this year. And my son’s car insurance was £5.5 K for a golf 1.4 TSI (1st year). This year I renewed his insurance for £1K. To compare my older son cost me £2K for his first year insurance a few years earlier. My understanding is the EVs disrupted the market last year and it took a while for insurers to separate the costings between EVs and ICE ( I may be wrong so anyone in the industry should enlighten me). Overall very happy with the big drop in the premiums.

POST 22Original post

Just renewed the insurance on my Cayman GTS 4.0. Last year £860 This year £647

POST 23Original post

Same. I have three ICE and one EV with A-Plan Thatcham. I braced myself and was prepared to push back when I renewed in January. The renewals on all of them came in lower than the previous year. Seem to recall the 25 yo 996 on 8k miles a year fell the most. Been with A-Plan for a few years, and, aside from being unable to insure a track-only car for fire & theft (because it accrues miles), they've always found a good product.

Yep Saga just quoted an almost unbelievable £252 for 2020 718 GT4 agreed value £85k and guaranteed to be an even lower premium next year. More basic policy was £223.

POST 39Original post

In 2025, all you can do is try Gocompare, Confused.com or Compare the Market. Choose the company that offers the best price, defacto ratings and extras that you want. If the premium is too high, that’s the car that you’ve bought, it’s the risk. Trying to scrimp will only end up costing you in the long run.
