They barely managed to keep the 918's weight under control (3600 lbs) through extensive use of expensive materials like carbon fiber, but that was a car with a base price of $800k.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Porsche is saying that it won't do a manual in hybrid vehicles Porsche says it won't build hybrids with manual transmissions . While technically I can understand the logic behind it, a manual in a hybrid can still get far better mileage than a non-hybrid manual or auto. Honda had the Civic and CR-Z hybrids with manuals, and generally speaking, they got amazing mileage. There's no reason Porsche cannot do the same. They need to rethink.

POST 2Original post

Hybrid Porsches are a niche product, even if it's one that interests me personally. Manual transmission Porsches are also niche sellers, again despite my personal interests. Something like 90% of the Porsches made have PDK, and it's that way because of customer demand, not because Porsche insists. A manual Hybrid would be such a tiny market that it's not worth their time to work out the engineering kinks. Also, it's questionable whether Porsche is going to release a hybrid 911 anytime soon. They're very interested in the subject, but the last time they said anything publicly, it was that they couldn't see a way to make an acceptable hybrid 911 due to weight and expense. They barely managed to keep the 918's weight under control (3600 lbs) through extensive use of expensive materials like carbon fiber, but that was a car with a base price of $800k. For point of reference, I've test driven a BMW i8. It was underwhelming. Sexy as hell, but a notch below a base 911 in terms of acceleration and cornering, despite prices a tad higher than a 911 GTS.
