I had a similar experience recently after power washing the vehicle (which went away after a few hours of running) and another time after a really rainy day.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone experienced this problem? Idles, and runs fine otherwise. It suddenly started, and no check engine light displayed. 26,000 miles.

POST 2Original post

Maybe a fuel delivery problem, try a bottle of Techron fuel cleaner along with fresh Chevron Supreme fuel top off. If you notice a improvement may have some clogged fuel injecters. If no improvement the fuel pump may be weak, check fuel pressure at high RPM if possible.

POST 3Original post

I know absolutely nothing about 996tt's, but if it was a 930 and it cut out during hard acceleration, it probably would be the overboost switch.

Agree to that, if your OB application is faulty it will exhibit those symptoms, Does it happen at exactly the same revs? regardless of gear select? that could give some insight.

POST 5Original post

No check engine light??? I have seen a few of these cars exhibit that when the valve lift control bracket breaks on one bank... Causes misfire faults on one bank only and sometimes the DME thinks that the O2 sensors are switched (crossed) which is not even possible haha. Here is a link to the tech article

POST 6Original post

Turn off the PSM and try it. PSM will start to cut out engine via e-throttle under certain conditions.

POST 7Original post

I had a similar experience recently after power washing the vehicle (which went away after a few hours of running) and another time after a really rainy day. It came down to water in the coil plugs and the engine connector on the right side of the engine bay. That connector in particular is not waterproof so water can get in there quite easily. Hope this helps, Merry Christmas!,
