Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Cant be true can it? - Im sure I read that unless it was installed during manufacturing then it not possible to retrofit? http://tinyurl.com/53tqju (ebay item) Apparently, information to do this can be found on-line... Any care to prove me wrong or is someone chatting a load of c**p?

POST 2Original post

I think it involves reprogramming the ECU or OBC - one of the two.

POST 3Original post

I had it done on my C4 by Tony Wright in a couple of hours. http://www.wrightune.co.uk/

POST 4Original post

c.afsar, I hope you did what I did: played around with the stalk for 15minutes, read the manual while stopped at motorway services, played with the stalk some more. Got annoyed at why my cruise dontrol didnt work. Realised 10mins later it must have been an option, and my car didnt have it... I would be interested in what you find out, would be keen if its an easy and inexpensive fit.

POST 5Original post

It can only be done on the facelift cars with e-gas. It just involves changing the stalks, some additional wiring and turning on the option in the ECU

POST 6Original post

as NXI20 says its a fairly easy mod. For facelift cars 2002-2004 anyway You need the 4 stalk column switch and have to make a mini loom (BMW connector plug and VW patch wires - costs about £3) - then connect the cruise plug of the column switch with the loom you have made to specific pins in one of the dash connector plugs - the grey one I seem to remember (for this you have to remove the dash (again very simple). Then you need to get the OPC (or a friendly indy) to switch on the cruise functionality via the ECU - takes 30 seconds to do.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply all. Interesting - I dont have the cruise control stalk but the thought of it does sound rather tempting, especially for the regular motorway commute. Guess this would be the way forward should I be faced with any stalk related issue (dare I temp fate!) Thanks all for the clarification. Cheers. :thumb:

POST 8Original post

this thread is worth a read if you are contemplating the job yourself. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=661&hl=cruise++retrofit

POST 9Original post

this sounds a great mod, no point in me trying to do it myself so anyone got any idea of costs?

POST 10Original post

I paid £381 all in - the stalks alone are nearly £200

POST 12Original post

I don't know, what ever next? I mean cruise control in a Porsche.

POST 13Original post

The only time I used mine was in SPECS zones - saves having to look at the speedo all the time 8)

POST 14Original post

ya can't beat cruise on those boring motorways or when there's a road littered with cameras. Probably pay for itself in my case too!

POST 15Original post

Get yourself a PogoAlert. It's only £250 and it tells you your average speed between specs and warns you of other static cameras as a bonus. Cruise control is for diesels.
