Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had new Serbo/Textar pads and discs fitted by my local garage 6mths ago (they aren't a Porsche garage, but he owns a Boxster which he services himself). Now I get the following sympton, and its been getting worse recently: - after parking up for a few days (its a weekend driver), when I go to drive away, the brakes seem to be stuck - eventually as I raise the clutch pedal and increase the revs to normal levels, I get a loud 'cracking' noise and off we go. If everything was perfect, the car would move well before I got to these revs and this position on the clutch - I have tried to listen and see if the 'crack' is from one corner, but I cant tell - When parked up the handbrake is off, and the handbrake is operating normally at all other times - Thinking about it, the brakes dont bite as sharply or quickly (need to press the pedal further) as they previously did, but that may be me imagining things cos I know somethings not quite right - once I pull away, this problem doesnt repeat itself, even if I park up, shop for 1hr and then drive off again. It only occurs after leaving it a few days - I never did anything special to bed the pads/discs in. I just drove carefully with them for the first 150miles I'm off to Abbeville tomorrow, so am hoping its nothing major. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Wouldn't worry about it. Most will d this if left for a period of a few days especially if it has been raining.

POST 3Original post

Very common, any moisture of rain creates rust which is scrubbed off very quickly when you're back on the road The reason I always park my car on my 'flat' driveway in gear and not using the handbrake, but leave it at leats 2 weeks and it still can do what you describe, so sadly very normal although sounds terrible !

POST 4Original post

I have similar problems with leaving the car for a view days. Ive got original porsche brakes/discs installed on the 996. I believed as mentioned its to do with the humidity building up causing the brake pads and disc to stick. If you cars stored in a garage, it might be worthwhile to looked into a dehumidifier - I think some of the other members here invested in one so may be able to shed further light on it. I usually let the car slowly move off (knowing the brake pads/discs may be "stuck") to prevent any damage. Also I hold the brakes 1/4 in to remove the rust that may have built up due to the raining as I start to move off. It also helps make the "crank" less "painful" (not for the car - for me!) The is only one real cure - Drive it more often!! :thumb:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1) top banana, glad its nothing wrong 2) the crack is frightening at first, isnt it? 3) this never happened when I had Porsche brakes/discs on, but hey 4) I reckon Abbeville might just get rid of some of the rust... 5) I dont drive it often enough, for that I apologise unconditionally, but when I do drive it, I drive it Thanks guys. PS - best mate bought a Sawiris(sp?) recently, supposed to be coming to Abbeville with us. Its conked out twice in the 2 weeks he has had it. TVR havent a clue whats wrong with it. He wants to borrow my 911 to track with... No chance, seeing as he tells me I am a common peasant for owning a 911.

POST 6Original post

When I first picked up the car, every odd sound that it would make would raise alarms causing me to fear the worst. I figured to enjoy it Id need to stop worrying and focus on the experience of a 911! Without meaning to sound patronising - Dont forget to let the engine warm up fully (usually about 2-3 miles) before the spirited drive!
