I think the car has been idle at a dealer for a number of months - a decent internal clean might help on the single unit before I have a word with the dealer....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Proud new owner of 996 2003 Targa - anyone reading this still considering a purchase of a 996 just do it!!! Reason for post: I have Sat Nav and 5 CD changer unit, but the changer unit isn't registering with the computer and the single CD unit jumps on occassions. I think the car has been idle at a dealer for a number of months - a decent internal clean might help on the single unit before I have a word with the dealer.... anyone with similar experience or suggestions? And if it did have to be replaced what are we talking? Many thanks!

POST 2Original post

The PCM units are a bit unreliable. I have an 04 996 and last month the unit informed me that the CD changer was not registering. Took it to the dealer to be told that i needed a new unit. Decided not to bother and the following week it started to work again! I would suggest that you go to a dealer and get it rebooted to see if that solves the problem.
