Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a 2000 996 C2 and replaced the B&M clone SSK that came with it to a Numeric.
Leading evidence: 'Replace b&m clone ssk' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'black) and the rennline' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend rennline shifter (' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I just cant decide between the 997 SSK, 997 GT3, the new FF shifter (probably the Black) and the Rennline.

I went with the Schnell (likely the same as several other options) with the Function First kit and shifter cable ends and Phenix Engineering Billet shift bushings.

however, the shop also recommended the Rennline shifter (using stock housing).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

not my favorite way of learning but it worked out well.
Hi all,
I recently purchased a 996 turbo and was immediately looking for something to fix the mile long gear throws.
I was looking at threads discussing the 997 shifter vs Ben auto vs numeric and I was wondering if anyone was in SEPA area that has any of them installed would let me check it out. Please and thank you!
I am trying to make the same decision.
my local shop let me feel a Numeric and a GT3 shifter in two different cars.
not a fan of the Numeric. Definitely preferred the GT3.
however, the shop also recommended the Rennline shifter (using stock housing). We were also discussing the Function First Kit (shifter & bearing).
looking a cable options also.
following for feedback.
I mean no disrespect by this, but you wouldve definitely made my decision more difficult. lol.
I purchased a used numeric at a good price so thats what Im going to install.
I hated the stock shifter too. First thing I changed. I went with the Schnell (likely the same as several other options) with the Function First kit and shifter cable ends and Phenix Engineering Billet shift bushings. Absolute night and day! It's perfect.
really!? Thats one I havent heard yet. Yeah I ended up buying a numeric but we will have to meet up sometime. Im in Chester Springs Monday through Friday.
I ended up installing the numeric shifter. Its a dramatic change from the OE. Ill post back on my thoughts after living with it for awhile.
anyone by chance know the size of the front screw that attaches the console to it? Bought mine used without it.
I am leaning towards just installing the FF Shift Right and cable ends and see how that does.
I just cant decide between the 997 SSK, 997 GT3, the new FF shifter (probably the Black) and the Rennline. They all seemed to be nice.
decisions. ugh.
Function First is selling cables now...

I need to spend time/effort elsewhere at present but they are definitely on my list.
I got mine through LN as well, only thing I'll add is the unit is canted away from you out the box. You can flip the shifter in the bracket to cant it away from you but keep that in mind before installation, my dumbass didn't realize it before a PCA event and had to relearn shifting characteristics on the fly... not my favorite way of learning but it worked out well. The Manthey is between 997/GT3 and a true short sifter, easy to shift at speed and long enough to know what gear you're looking for. My car came with a B&M, that unit was pretty short. The other option that looks great is FF shifters, they come in various throws and lengths, look very promising.
The verdict is in for me... I love the numeric shifter. As others have stated in the past, it does seem to loosen up a bit after some miles, so don't let the initial notch feel scare you away.
