Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ran a K&N panel filter in a Golf VR6 for 80,000 miles and never had a problem with the MAF.
Leading evidence: 'Run k&n panel filter in a golf vr6' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'combination of the two' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run k&n panel filter in a golf vr6' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I have been looking at K&N air filter's for my 996 and wondered if anyone had any advice on them? Firstly, are they worth it? The cost is looking around £70, is that a good price and also more importantly will they increase performance?
Any advice will be great!
Thanks
Do a search for "BMC". I remember a post on here where I think people said the BMC is better. But my memory aint what it used to be, so find the post before believing me.
Like Wagonface said, 'search' is your friend
There's loads of info on this subject, too much to go into in 1 reply. Don't belive the bhp claims though and is that £70 for the panel filter or induction kit? I'm guessing panel filter as otherwise that's pretty damn cheap. Think Parr do they're own panel filter aswell as BMC (it could just be rebranded though).
Mine has a K&N replacement panel filter in it, I wasn't expecting an increase in bhp when I fitted it but I'd done the same thing with my old 968 and it sounded a bit better and felt a bit crisper at higher revs. The results were similar with my 996, a slightly improved acoustic, it feels a bit fresher and a wee bit more urgent, plus (and it may just be me) it feels a tad smoother and more responsive at lower revs (say below 4k)
Nominal differences in reality, if you've got £70 burning a hole in your pocket and not sure about doing the full induction thing I say try one but don't expect a measurable improvement in 'real world' performance.
Hi - I went for the full K&N induction treatment recently along with an ECU re-map, car certainly feels more responsive but its probably a combination of the two... K&N claim a 24hp gain but you'll never know unless you dyno it.
Makes the engine bay look more interesting and sounds great when combined with PSE @4500+rpm

Maf
I put a post up a while ago and it was suggested that a k+n might blow the maf by getting oil on the hot wire, i took my K+N out for that reson.
just a though
Re: Maf
I think that's only the cone filter (as part of the K&N induction kit) that can cause that. Not sure that the panel filter has that issue, I may be wrong though :?
Re: Maf
Hi - the standard filter and box eats MAF sensors as well - just go easy when oiling the K&N filter (ie a light spray at least 24 hours before fitting) done about 3.5k miles since fitting mine and its been just fine..
