Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Tony, just had the car serviced and the coolant wasn't changed unfortunately.
Leading evidence: 'Replace unfortunately' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). The chemical composition of the coolant apparently negates the need for DI water to be used according to the Porsche Technician I spoke to.

Did you check the colour in your expansion tank before you topped it up?

Suggestion
If it was originally red I would recommend draining your system, flushing it with fresh water and refilling with the correct coolant.

Suggestion
Advises very strongly to only use the proper Porsche-branded stuff, and to have the system drained and refilled if you don't know the car's history.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents,
my coolant needs a little top up. I've topped it up a couple of times with DI water but need to add coolant this time. So where the heck can you buy it from in the UK?
Tried design911 with no luck (although i may be looking in the wrong place of course) and found a site in the US that sold it but i'm having no joy with anywhere in the UK...
cheers
Tim
If you keep topping the coolant up, the bottle may have developed small cracks quite common in older 996's. Telltale signs are white residue around the bottle. Can't help with the coolant suppliers but why not ask your service guys.

I haven't Damian, will give that a try. Guessing they won;t post it mail order though as it would be a hazardous material?
Tony, just had the car serviced and the coolant wasn't changed unfortunately.
thanks for the input guys.
Tim - 996 owners guide in May edition of 911&Porsche World has a piece about this. Says it is about £4 per litre from the OPC. Advises very strongly to only use the proper Porsche-branded stuff, and to have the system drained and refilled if you don't know the car's history. Guess you'd want to be sure about any leaks first! Hope that helps. Steve.
I got some for mine a few weeks ago from the OPC. It was £8.11/ltr and comes neat, i.e. not pre-diluted. Ref. P000.043.301.03
I asked the Technician if it needed DI water and he said not any more. The chemical composition of the coolant apparently negates the need for DI water to be used according to the Porsche Technician I spoke to.
I would email Porsche in Germany and get them to clarify. I'd be very surprised if Posche make coolant - they don't make petrol or oil either!
My guess is that they re-package the part synthetic 'red coloured' coolant as sold in your average car part retailer. If you mix the older style blue coolant with the newer red in any car then it will react and attack your hoses and seals - so be careful what you add to your car.
I emailed Porsche a few months ago about another issue and a nice German chap called me and gave an honest answer - what great support!
When you get confirmation please let us all know as it could save us a heap of cash.
cheers

I doubt they do make their own coolant also and just re-package someone elses product which would be interesting to know who's.
Anyway, this is what they gave me for my C2S.

I went bollox to all this proper coloured coolant and chose one of the Porsche approved coolants....Mobil 1, which is garish pink prior to dilution
Worked fine, no issues with the OPC etc
