Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My 2002 had PSE mufflers fitted but not the switch from new (I think switchable was a later option).

With Damians help I fitted the PSE switch last summer - but was never convinced I was getting quiet mode!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how much to have one of these fitted onto my 2003 targa? I assume they sound much better (i.e. louder :food: ) than the standard exhaust? is this a PSE or just the mufflers that make the car sound louder....... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-911-9...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

POST 2Original post

Im thinking the same way and found this thread very helpful. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=26870&highlight=autodienst I emailed autodienst today and asked them if this was essentially a PSE without switch gear and this is the response I got:- "hello that are the same mufflers like you have got now in your car we modify them with a bypass porsche modifies them with a bypass and a valve thats all the valve mufflers are opened and closed by underpressure electric is for switching underpressure equipment" So in essence it seems to be pretty much the PSE without the whistles and bells.

POST 3Original post

One comment I'd make about having switchable PSE having spent a fruitful afternoon dismanlting the rear end of my car to free up the valves in my PSE is the contrast with it on and off. Not suprising you might say - but to explain. My 2002 had PSE mufflers fitted but not the switch from new (I think switchable was a later option). The reason being that for legaslitive reasons the PSE had to switch to quiet mode between 30-45mph or something like that, hence the vacum acctuated valves even though there was no dash switch. With Damians help I fitted the PSE switch last summer - but was never convinced I was getting quiet mode! Hence this weekend took it all apart and discovered the valves on both sides were siezed open - so always in loud mode  Anyway fixed that and now the switch does what it should and goes into stealth mode when pressed. ...And my point...got there in the end.... - its like having 2 cars in one, loud mode is quite agressive - fun when you are on it. But quiet mode makes for a far more relaxing drive. Apart from the always on issue with the aftermarket mufflers you may also have noise issues at some track days - I believe PSE in loud mode is borderline at some tracks - so switchable removes that worry. Just points to bear in mind - gleened on my voyage through getting my PSE to finally work as intended.
