But you can have bluetooth on pcm2.1 for about £500, mine came with the denison kit alreaday installed which works quite well.

Whereas, with the 996T, not a great deal changed over its lifespan. From OPC or reputable dealer still not much different.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just been trawling through eBay & piston heads and it really does seem like 997 TT prices are really really low on the other hand 996 TT are starting to really hold there own ( for good examples of course ) .
i was looking for a low mileage 996 Turbo recently and found prices to be extremely buoyant.
I made a couple of offers on vehicles up for sale privately but the owners would not budge.
I ended up looking at what i would get for my money and stumped up the extra for a 997 Turbo instead.
I felt i got far more for my money with a 997TT.

Yes i agree 100% and my purchase is to provide me with a car to keep and drive daily rather than making an investment so the smart money went on a 997.
If i was looking at buying to drive for a year at weekends and then sell then you're right,a 996 would suffer far less depreciation.

what do you call low ?
cheapest manual car under 30k miles is £41k and still 8 years old.
the cheapest OPC car sub 30k miles is again 8 years old but £48k
I don't call these prices really really low for a car I would actually want to own and not some high miles tiptronic.
I've been watching these for ages and think that 997 prices are dropping as you'd expect but there is some truth that 'good' 996 TT values are firming up. I doubt that they will get any lower
Demon I agree - think here will be a significant price shift shortly downwards as I struggle to see oh some OPCs can ask 50k plus for 2007 cars with 30k miles on the clock. Also numbers wise there are a lot on the market now so should dilute somewhat

If you are talking about 997 turbos being down around the 30K mark they really are the poor end of the market with 'wraps' or over 100K miles or both.
To buy anything that resembles a good one i would say 38K plus is needed (unless you're in the trade or getting a 'mates' deal).

The market seems flooded with 997TT , a lot less 996 TT on the market .
I would imagine the reason for that is the release of the 991 means many are upgrading, whereas the 996 markets buoyancy means
many owners want to hang onto them and are enjoying depreciation free porsche motoring.

I'd have said the opposite. Have been following prices for a year and sure they have fallen a little, but hardly 'through the floor'.
Still looking at low 40's for a food av mile, reasonable spec car. They are holding much better that 996Ts did.
When I bought my 996 C2 in late 09 I was considering a 996T then. At the time 02/03 cars (i.e 7 or 8 years old) were £27-30k. Today good 7 or 8 year old 997Ts are £40-£44k.
I'd agree though that the gap between good 996Ts at £25-30k vs the 997T range will close. Its hard to think of a reason why you would choose a 996T over 997T, I would have thought that gap will close to around £5k once age is no longer relevant and its just about mileage/condition.
Will floor price of 996Ts shore up 997T prices or will the volume of 997Ts put further downward pressure on them ...

With 7t you only read need zorst in my humblest of opinions

Maybe they will settle at something greater than £5k, like for like. Best and worst will overlap.
At the moment its £10-£15k, arguably the age is becoming irrelevant as the first 997t cars are now 8 years old. It'll be about mileage and condition.
I think it'll close a bit yet though. Like for like, how much extra would you pay for a 997T over a 996T?

£10k and worth it to me, but impossible to compare like for like as the 7 is going to be younger and probably lower mileage.
Mine is 3 years younger than the youngest 6, and has only 28k miles. So maybe that's equivalent to a £4/5k premium?
For me it was worth it for the better interior, extra power and nicer front end IMHO, but the fact I was looking for a 6 for so long shows the regard I have for them too

Prices haven't dropped that much, it's just that there seems to be a lot more available hovering around £40k mark when perhaps 6 months ago there would have only been the odd one available with high mileage. Now I think it is possible to pick up a good one for £40k.

I am in the market for a TT and in dilemma of a 6 or 7, looking at a 85k 6 for 24k at a dealer but impeccable history and lots just spent at OPC on rads, tyres, condensors. Good value?
There are a lot of Tiptronic 997Ts about, which probably aren't going to be as desirable as a well looked after manual 996T.
Excuse me if i'm incorrect, but perhaps 997T prices have 'nosedived' because there is a clear distinction between Gen 1 and Gen 2 models? Whereas, with the 996T, not a great deal changed over its lifespan.
Have been watching 996/997 turbo prices for 4 years off an on, watching both fall along the predictable curve, which was all good as my RS4 seemed to just flatline.
Took the plunge a few weeks ago on a 997 turbo manual 2008.
My take is 996 turbos have got to the £25k-35k level for a decent one, which is the correct floor for the balance of:
great performance car / age / upkeep cost
997 will find its level at a similar or slightly higher level. Good gen 1s seem to be around the £40-50k mark depending on age and mileage.
IMHO it remains the better car, far superior interior, looks as good from side and rear (actually looks better from rear because of the wider, more extreme spoiler, and looks much better from the front with the round headlights and better looking grille shape.

The are enough on the market to do a good comparison, I would say you are paying 2k over to buy from a dealer with a car that leggy, but lots of people will say "buy on condition not mileage" but I ignore and do both. But if rads and tyres are new that's 3k of maintenance saved so fair value IMHO

+1, if you are after a manual the 997.1 is more desirable than the 997.2 due to famously reliable Mezger engine IMHO
Only benefit of 997.2 is PCM3 and BT update which is certainly handy but not as important as the engine IMHO, especially as these cars get older
m33ufo said:
You could always buy the last of the gen1's which came with PCM3. Best of both worlds.
Which is what I did. Makes a huge difference if the car will be your DD.
I'm probable last of a dying breed who enjoys a bit of quiet time behind the wheel without the phone ringing to enjoy the drive. But you can have bluetooth on pcm2.1 for about £500, mine came with the denison kit alreaday installed which works quite well.
As for the satnav. Its gets you to most paces, I still plug in my £100 tomtom when I need to go somewhere that maybe new to the the satnav.

Good point!
For me, either engine sounds crap though...

I agree, they do sound pants. Thats why I have a Tuscan as well... 996 + Tuscan S can be done for less than a 997TT (lovely though they are!)
