Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You need to replace the bolts because they become elastic after a period of time due to the amount of heat they get exposed to, so become very tight and also could shear during installation or removal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have got some replacement pads and discs to put on the front of my 996tt, however I need to buy the "squeel pads" and new bolts. A lot of places sell them, but the prices seem to vary quite considerably, any recommendations of a place to get a good price for these? If the brake pad warning light has not come on yet, so I need to replace the wear sensors or can these be removed from the existing pads and fitted to the new ones? Also, does anyone know what torque the bolts should be done up to when re-attaching the calipers? Cheers Rob

POST 2Original post

If you buy the OPC set, they come complete with shims and new sensors. I don't believe you can buy them separately. Don't reuse the sensor or the shims.

POST 3Original post

63-65ft/lbs....and don't reuse the caliper bolts You can reuse the sensors provided you haven't cracked them whilst removing them or worn them through. Regarding the anti-squeal pads and spiders you might be pleasantly surprised at the price in an OPC.

POST 4Original post

also try European Car Parts or GS&F. I have yet to be pleasantly surprised by anything price wise from an OPC, apart from the coffee which is free  why wouldn't you re use the caliper bolts?

POST 5Original post

I have, 997 shift mech, Cup splitter, sub bar for harness The bolts are use once bolt, they apparently stretch when screwed into position to secure them. At £11 for 4 it's peace of mind

POST 6Original post

I agree, the shims are cheap enough from OPC. You need to replace the bolts because they become elastic after a period of time due to the amount of heat they get exposed to, so become very tight and also could shear during installation or removal. This would prove very expensive to put right. Make sure you put the right disk on the right wheel as they are side sensitive - see the cross drilling and you'll work it out. The drilling is designed to throw out water once you are moving. When you've replaced your disks make sure you always take your car round the block after wahing the wheels - this is the main reason for early disk corrosion!
