Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Theyre easy to remove, so Id recommend doing that.

Would also look into replacing the film after, money well spent.

Unfortunately I don't think you can simply replace the mount without getting all the internal parts which I see is 996-731-219-00.

Which version did you use, 39143 or 49143 (satin)?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello 996 enthusiasts, do you have any suggestions what to do with the trim around the outside mirrors. The "plate" that connects the mirrors to the door has lost its color and looks washed out. Can this be painted and if-so what preparation and product do you recommend that won't streak? I think they should be black, but interested if you think differently, i.e. body color - Atlas Grey? TYVM! /X3

Unfortunately I don't think you can simply replace the mount without getting all the internal parts which I see is 996-731-219-00. But it is paintable. Mine is just black. You will need to prime it but I have no experience with what is required since I'm terrible at it. Do you know how it came to look the way it does?
^^^ I would seriously consider removing that PPF from the mirrors (and anywhere else it may be on the car) before it ages any further. In the next stage, it will start looking like the PPF on my old Cayenne. Removing it was one of the most unpleasant jobs I've ever done and there were areas where the clear coat came off with the PPF...
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Maybe I'm still emotionally scarred from my PPF removal experience but I think its' the biggest scam since

I always wondered if the pro PPF guys grew up with living rooms like this.
haha yes your experience was terrible (removing very early, gummy expired film is something I never want to do again). But I wouldn’t let a previous owner’s neglect ruin what is one of the best ways to protect our cars. I don’t know of any plastic that can be exposed to the elements and not degrade over twenty five years.
My family has a 2012 MINI that has had full PPF since new. Not a single flaw on the front and thats with constant construction in my city and freeway driving. In the next few years I will remove the film in an afternoon and have it replaced. Money well spent keeping the car enjoyable & anxiety-free. About a year ago I had a large *something* hit a mirror. Film was done, but the paint was unscathed. Removed PPF in one piece and replaced, no fuss.
