Amy recommendations for some that are good fit and diy w/o number removal? Thnx
I have had the the
Zunsport
grills for several years now (also a
2007 Cayman S
). They look great, fit perfectly, and are still firmly attached. A good choice in my opinion!
Thanks was hoping to not remove bumper (and spend less!). A plastic mesh would be easier to work with than the aluminum but not seeing any. I might have to make some.
If you want the look to be factory, removing the bumper cover is the right way to go. Besides, you can clean out the radiators when you do it and it’s not a tremendously difficult job. It’s just better with two people because of scratching potential, but it can be done by one because I did it on my
986
. You can buy generic grill mesh from JC Whitney, yep they’re still in business. I’m sure others have it too. If you mesh the bumper cover from the back, it will be more work, but the result is so beautiful that it’s worth the pursuit, just my two cents. PS Cost of materials is low.
Thanks for your comments. We’ll see …retired and winters are long here. Omg haven’t heard mention of JCW in quite a while.
That’s what I did, I did mine over the course of a long winter. I had a huge garage back then with a pellet stove in it. If you have an indoor space and it’s not freezing cold, that’s perfect. You can put some blankets down and take it apart a little at a time And then move the bumper cover into your house if you want and work on that piece solo.
Just found these which do not require removal of the bumper at radiatorgrillstore.com

thanks. I think I can make those work.
I 2nd the
Zunsport
. Easy install, look good, and no bumper removal. Disclaimer - I did not have the center mesh, just the main radiators.
I used Radiator Grill Store for the
Cayman
sisters.

Base
Cayman
: Grills slid right in with no bending
987.1
Cayman S
: Had to bend the grills to get them behind. After behind, they bent right back out flat.
A couple of items:
1) Use a zip-tie in the center of the grills to hold them in 'relative' position while you attached the corners. After the four corners are right, remove the center zip-tie.
2) Get a set of picks to help with bending / positioning the grills.
Got this set from
Amazon
:
They have been in for a couple of years. No problems.
I have the
987.2
grilles from them - fit just fine, no drilling, are really not obvious once installed, and these are some nice guys running the place (I needed some help in locating the tie-wraps in the grilles after I removed one to access something.. they sent me a template to use..)
And reasonably priced.
I used CCG custom car grilles they are ok. The center grille called for clear silicone to hold it in place. Not an easy method to make look good. Ended up adding black silicone at corners and it’s fine. Only a purist on hands and knees in front of bumper would find issue.
Btw, I found a piece of spare dishwasher drain hose was perfect fit for shop vac hose and getting at the debris in radiators.
Dave - that's a wonderful hack.. but PLEASE read the sticky at the top of every page here on posting pics to Planet-9. That's HUGE photo... if they put It on the Jumbotron during the game Sunday it would looks great - but for a forum typically read on a computer monitor, or laptop or even a phone - a HUGE photo isn't a friend. It takes much longer to load..
Thanks for your cooperation!
