I have since opened the rear window using the key and it worked ok and since then used the inner button again with the same result, it would not lock down until I pressed the button again.

I opened the rear window on my targa recently and when I came to close it it would not lock down unless I pressed the button again inside the car. I have since opened the rear window using the key and it worked ok and since then used the inner button again with the same result, it would not lock down until I pressed the button again. Does anyone know a solution?

1) Try opening and closing the main (sun)roof and then cleaning up the connectors. There's a switch which allows the rear hatch to open/close depending on the location of the main roof. It's probably that the rear hatch doesn't think the roof is closed and this is what is causing the problem. 2) Never, ever drop the rear hatch from a height, otherwise you'll pop the closing catches. Drop the rear hatch close gently and put your fingers in between the glass and body as a guide, then move your fingers out and gently push the lid down...as you drop the rear hatch, you should hear a whirring noise and the locks should catch up pull the rear hatch in. I suspect a combination of the 2 will fix the issue. If you slam the hatch, like a conventional hatchback, you will break the mechanism.

i had the same problem - i had never propery cleaned around the roof seals and mechanism for both slie and hatch - did so and lubed the close mechanism and no problems since then :lol:
