I have a
2007 Cayman
that my battery died. And tried to use the jumper and failed. Finally used the manual releases and replaced the battery. After that my from frunk release never worked again. I have replaced the actuator and Interior switch and still have not solved the problem. The rear deck lid works well. Took it to the shop and they could not solve the issue.
could the fuse have failed? or did the manual release get stuck in "open" mode?
I remember
@WTFChuck
mentioned this problem in his detailed alternative fix for the manual release:
My ears perked up at the mention of the emergency frunk release, since I studied
Porsche
’s quirky engineering of this system with all of its built i weaknesses. I had read others comments of the possibility/suggestion that it may only work once or twice. I delved into the whole latch system, removing mine and pretty much dissecting it to see what makes it tick. Pulling the emergency release does not actually pull on the cable, but rather pulls on the entire cable and sheath, which may render it unusable in the future. This sounds like what may have happened here, since Rayfr11 has already replaced the actuator and switch and it still does not work. To Rayfr11, when you press the switch or use the key fob, do you hear the requisite ‘whirring’ of the actuator attempting to open the frunk? If you hear it working then your switch replacement and fuse can be ruled out as not working which leaves the possibility of the actual latch not being moved to pop the frunk to the half open position. The pic shows where the emergency release cable grabs the outer sheath covering the cable and if the plastic part attached to the latch housing pulls out of the housing, or worse yet, breaks because of its age and brittlenes, then the latch will not release the hood from its grip.
If you jump the fuse box jumper, and it will not open with the sill switch then you must use the key fob to pop the front trunk. The car must be totally energized for the switch on the side sill to operate. With a really dead battery the only way to get it to work is with the key fob.
I've used the jumpers at the fuse box and few times, with and without the battery in the car. Seems to continue to work fine.
