Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone advise if it is possible/advisable to lubricate the tip selector? I got into my 996 after a while away and the selector was quite stiff, I managed to get D selected and it drove great, but sliding acress to manual was hit and miss and putting back into P took a few goes so that I could get the key out. If lubricate is required what would be best and where? Thanks for any advise.

POST 2Original post

When I had a similar problem it was a linkage at the back of the gearbox where the cable joins onto the gearbox. Check this first as Porsche charged me £450 to replace the cable as they said the inner cable had worn through the outer protective sheathing. Hope this helps
