Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello all. Forums's newest member here, hailing from Ontario, Canada. I am waiting on delivery of a new-to-me 2006 Cayman S . After a year+ long search, I think I found an interesting one: PCCB 's, PASM , Xenons, Sport Seats, Sport shifter, Bose ... and I am looking forward to contributing alongside the group as I enjoy it! Anyone know how to post in the "introductions section"? I don't see it anywhere and I'm trying to tick off some boxes so I can contact someone about a classified ad here Many thanks,

POST 2Original post

Nice find with some great options! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

This post qualified as an intro so all taken cared of there.

POST 4Original post

Congrats on the Cayman ! It looks beautiful. The PCCBs are a pretty rare option for these cars.

POST 5Original post

May the gods of no rotor replacement shine down upon you.

POST 6Original post

Wow pccb ’s someone ordered it fully loaded. Looks like a beautiful car, what’s the mileage?

POST 7Original post

Very nice find. He is one I purchased about a month ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

POST 8Original post

RDJprice, how many miles on the brakes? I would get some numeric shifter cables and use the motor braking. Keep those yellow calipers clean as they are worth 1/4 the price of the car. Great find. Hopefully the oil was changed regularly up north as bore scoring was a little more frequent with the M97 engine . Are you storing the Cayman for the winter or driving it?

POST 10Original post

Very nice! The darker metallic silver looks great w silver rims.

POST 11Original post

Apex, Thanks for pointing a few things out. Rotors/car have ~63,000km. Full service history from Weissach in Vancouver where the car has spent its life (no salt), perfect PPI, low revs, and clean cylinders. I believe shift cables have been replaced on the factory sport shifter, but have to have a second look when it arrives. Regardless, I'll be engine braking a lot come spring 😁. Storing for the winter.

POST 12Original post

Jake Raby, flat6innovations has a series of free videos on line that are very good to know as a Porsche first time owners. Not to scare you both, just to give you some basic knowledge about the history of the M97 engine and preventative care . Great to have you both on this web site. We look forward to contributor's world wide.

POST 13Original post

Indeed, I have gone through just about everything 987 related at least 2 times during the year+ long search for this one, we’ll I was actually after a 987.2 but we all know how that goes. Maybe one day. Anyways, I was surprised I couldn’t find any info on what a pristine bore scope should look like, ie what is typical for. 60.000 km or 100,000km car in good health. Likewise, I also couldn’t find any info on whether the 350mm PCCB callipers will fit within most/all Porsche 19” cayman spec rims? Looking because I am considering some claws (spiders are too expensive!)

POST 14Original post

Great looking car, OP! You’re gonna love it. So much character and charm. Enjoy!

POST 15Original post

I just got mine a few days ago, except non running condition (seized engine with peeling clear coat). Just wash it today.

POST 17Original post

Hi Apex1, my quick low buck solution is to use my 2003 Boxster S 3.2L engine to replace the 3.4L on the Cayman . Its the 1st year of the Boxster 3 chain with Variocam. I believe 2003 year the Boxster started using the 7.8 Motronic which is also used on 2006 Cayman S . Can someone please comment if this swap will work? The 3.4L will be investigated and if the damage are not to extensive i may attempt to rebuilt my self overtime while using the 3.2L. Also the LS and the Audi V8 is in consideration. Honestly i prefer the LS swap except don't like idea cutting some of the bottom structure and loosing seat and leg space. Another concern i have is the offset angles of the rear axles in relation from the original configuration, i wonder if it cause vibration in high speed?

POST 18Original post

There is a member on P9 with a name ArcFlash, who has a 2006 Cayman with an LS motor that he installed. You certainly could PM him to find out the correct answer to your question. He runs a speed shop in Bend, Oregon. Hope this project works out. The 3.2 Boxster engine would work or even a 911 engine from a wrecked car. They have about 375 hp depending on the year and model. If you are on a shoestring budget, then the 3.2 would work, but if you have cash, then a newer 3.8 out of a 911 would be the ticket.

POST 19Original post

i have been talking to some guys who build engine and same time searching the entire internet solution to improve the cylinder to stop from happening bore scoring and D chunk. One of the solution suggested is steel sleeve by boring the old one out and replacing with i think wet sleeve, the other one is nikies. What do you think of these options. They also gave option to bore the old 3.4 to 3.8, Retaining all original parts simplify installation. I plan to keep this car for a long time.

POST 20Original post

That longevity statement is key, as nikies would be best from guys like LN. Give them a call as they might have a 3.8 with nikies on the shelf ready to go out the door. Vision in California is another excellent motor rebuilder as is Jake Raby at flat6innovations.

POST 21Original post

I agree very nice. What mods did the previous owner add? Do you have a order of use for these two different cars? One a high HP with more weight over the rear and the other a lower HP mid engine driver. Maybe one a rain car or some other use like a bike transporter?

POST 22Original post

Pretty car The carbon ceramic brakes are very nice! I like the Artic Silver cars.
