Hi all,
Considering the full exhaust system from soul performance(long tube headers/catback) looks like a nice product. Few question before pulling the trigger though.
How loud is it? Drone? I currently have the
porsche
sport exhaust. I've had the fabspeed race catback on my old
cayman
, it was loud but I got used to it. Also I have a glass engine cover with painted intake manifolds that I'd like to keep, but dont know if that's gonna make it too loud.
Also i live in NJ, would it pass inspection?
Lastly, I'm thinking of having soul install the thing. Good idea? Or should I just do it myself? Car has 50k miles dont know how bad the bolts are underneath.
If anyone in the NY/NJ/PA/MD area that has this exhaust installed would like to meet up to check out their exhaust that would be awesome. I'd like to try my glass case on your car to see how it sounds and you could see how a glass case would look on your car ?
Thanks in advance for any info
Hey thanks for your interest!
I believe you may be referring to their Supercup exhaust. That exhaust design utilizes resonators instead of mufflers to limit tone and is designed to be aggressive. Our systems are designed around drone fighting mufflers. During development we knew that on the older
Cayman
/ Boxsters aftermarket headers would also be paired with our exhaust so we built an exhaust that is aggressive when you are on the throttle and more refined off throttle.
If you remove catalytic converters (one set in the headers, one in the rear exhaust for
987.1
) you may fail inspection. If you do just the rear exhaust, you would have no issues as those cats are unmonitored.
We could get the exhaust done very quickly as we've done it several times, you also have the option of starting with just the rear exhaust or headers first to hear if you like the setup and then we could add the other component while you are here. If you find the full package to be aggressive, we could remove one of our components - but that said where in NJ are you at? We do have a member who would make his car with full exhaust available for you to hear. We don't want you to take our word for it, let us prove it to you with an in car experience!
We try to make it very easy and rewarding to work with us, just let us know how we can help!

Sorry to hear about the drone. I will reach out to you to see what system that you have. I would like to understand what you are running right now to see if there is anyway to help out with the system before you have to go get a whole new system.
Hello, SOUL cat-back owner on a mt '06 CS @ 40k miles. My 5am commute thru small-town-copville Niskayuna NY was risky business with my straight glasspak setup. Couple large hills at the 30-40 mph mark and woo scary drone at that hour.
Enter SOUL cat-back install. Heat the studs (just a propane torch will work) back off the old and bolt the SOUL up. New bolts/nuts were provided and used as I didn't bother pulling out the heat soon enough. You will need the OEM
Porsche
hanger system (I found out the hard way). Super firm install, everything mated well with nice suspension (zero rattle).
Now my commute is 'safe', over a year, no tickey. SOUL on my car is not quiet at idle, just right for a DD. Now hit the I-890 and let er howl coming under the 1st bridge...sounds fantastic in the 5's. Drone? well I'd say 80% decreased, still a touch, naturally, slow climbing between 2-3k...but not a standout as before. The old girl seems to like the backpressure provided by the exit tip too! This is one of the 'get what you pay for' good examples. I'd do it again in a heartbeat or on my
next
P-Car. Considering the cat headers from them
next
. Good luck!
+1 for Soul Performance....got the race headers
I bought the full exhaust (headers and cat back exhaust) from Soul for my 06' S with 65K miles about 3 months ago. I installed it myself. Live in MD and commute to Philly for work. No problem with the bolts on the old headers for me. Was an easy install. Hardest part was running the new O2 sensor wires. I had issues for a few weeks with check engine light going off, but that was due to me not tightening the 100 cell cats tight enough. Haven't had an issue for the last 2 months with triggering the CEL.
MD has self service kiosks for emissions checks and as long as you don't have a CEL, you will pass with no problem. I think Jersey is a bit more stringent. As for the sound. My wife and I took it to CT to a friends house and it was not loud on the highway cruising at 90. (Meaning my wife did not complain about it.) If you get into it however, it sounds incredible. I usually leave my neighborhood at 5am to head to work and my neighbors would let me know if it was annoying to them. I did have to switch back to the factory header gaskets which are a thin metal vs. the gaskets that SOUL provides that are thicker. I did notice a bit of drone around 2300-2500 rpm when I switched back to the stock gaskets that was not there with the thicker ones. That being said, it is rare that it happens.
I love the exhaust and there is definitely a noticeable performance improvement over stock. I have about 3,000 miles on the new setup and am looking forward to putting a lot more miles on it.
Thank you everyone for the kind words! We formed our company with the intent to focus on customer service and have happy customers - so glad you are all elated and we greatly appreciate you being in the family!
Hello,
I am looking to get this SOUL cat-back exhaust on my 2006
Boxster S
. Is anyone either in the Providence, RI area or, the DC metro area? I go back and forth between these two regions a few times a year and would really appreciate it if someone who had this installed could let me hear how it is in person. TIA
Have Soul catback on my
Cayman S
, love it, no drone and sounds really good, not too loud at low RPM but opens up when you get on it. Best mode I have done for the car.
My '07
Boxster S
came with cat-back SOUL exhaust installed when I bought it a year ago and I love the way my car sounds. I don't know what the stock sounded like, but I can't imagine an improvement on how it is. If you haven't found one to listen to, maybe I now have an excuse for an extended roadtrip out east!
