If you already have a GPS antenna in that location (from a seriously old PCM), you can use an adapter cable to connect to the new PCCM+

As an aside I've seen PCCM+ installs which use the original gps receiver placement under the central dash top too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As above really, am fitting an aftermarket headunit that comes with a microphone to attach somewhere in the car (on the sunvisor etc) but I was hoping there may be a smarter OEM alternative....? Thanks

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gawd bless Google - just did a search and found there is a microphone (or at least a grill for one) in the cluster and there are a few guides on how to remove these and add an aftermarket microphone. Thanks

POST 3Original post

Can confirm I've done this with my DIY PCCM+ install and quite straightforward!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, do you mean you installed an aftermarket microphone in the OEM position?.... If so, any tips please?

POST 5Original post

As an aside I've seen PCCM+ installs which use the original gps receiver placement under the central dash top too. Better than the installs where they put the receiver on the right of the dash top by the A pillar, which looks a bit of a mess.

POST 6Original post

POST 7Original post

Sorry I missed this. Yes I installed the PCCM Plus supplied microphone in this position. Pulled out the old microphone that was in there on my car and swapped it for this. Had to slightly modify to get it in and make it stay but all working fine. Took the cluster gauge out to route the cable to centre of the dash behind the head unit. From memory one screw (25 Torx I think) behind the microphone and for the other you have to pull out the hazard switch. Then you disconnect the three colour coded plugs at the rear. Then it comes right out. Tip: make sure you secure the microphone cable so I doesn't rattle. I didn't and mine does and it's annoying so I need to take the cluster gauge out again and secure it properly.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, its the next job now on the list...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got around to doing this, wasn't a particularly hard job, just removed the dashboard binnacle (is that the right term?) so that I could feed the microphone lead down through to the head-unit. Needed to fettle the back of the microphone pop out trim piece a little so that it would accept my head-unit's Pioneer microphone but other than that it all went smoothly. Put it all back together and did a couple of test phone calls and it's working perfectly! Much better than having to clip the microphone to the visor or roof lining!
