Have you tried first just replacing the key battery?

Thanks T8, I'll take a look under the trunk lid and change the oil.

After two years most would advise that your oil be change regardless of mileage.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, so I have tried the procedure on the other Key and it has worked!
Dear All,
I have recently bought a September 2000 911 C4S. The engine number is just prior to the change from the dual-race IMS to the single-race IMS.
I have a few questions if I may.
Does anyone know if I can find out if my car came with a factory hard top and whether it has the passenger door mirror tilt when in reverse function? (There are no reversing sensors.)
I seem unable to set the seat and mirror position to the Key; I have followed the guide in the manual but to no avail.
Finally, the oil was changed in November 2020- Mobil 5w40. The car has only covered 2400 since and the oil is still brown in colour. Should I change it?
Any advice would be greatly received.
Cheers Austin
Hi Austin
:welcome: to 911uk and to 911 ownership. :thumb:
There should be a sticker on the underside of your frunk lid and in the owners manual listing the options that your car was fitted with. If you post these someone will be able to tell you whether any included the hard top.
I think all cars came with the mirror tilt facility but I might be wrong.
After two years most would advise that your oil be change regardless of mileage.
ps. The pedant in me has noted that your car can't be a C4S. I'm assuming it's a C4 with the Tiptronic 'S' gearbox. :dont know:
Thanks T8, I'll take a look under the trunk lid and change the oil.
Nothing wrong with being a pedant and of course, you're correct. My car is a C4 with the Tiptronic 'S' gearbox.
Cheers
Austin
I've looked at my trunk label and it must have been damp at some stage as it is covered by black spots and is illegible.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers

The car has probably had the key fob replaced .. if this is not coded in the same position as the transponder the memory seats often stop working .
To check this it needs an Indy or an OPC .. you will need to supply the V5 , driving license etc for them to get the security codes ..
With a tester you look at the coded position of the transponder .. ie 1-4 and then the position of the fob .. both should be on say position 2 .. if different that's your issue .
Transponder position can be moved .. fob one cant .
Again .. both places can get the factory codes .. from memory i think it's actually listed on the tester under DME / Vehicle date .
Mirror drop .. select the n/s mirror adjustment then reverse .. if there is an issue with the potentiometer in that side then it wont work .. again a tester to see if there's a fault .
997 it's a coding option i believe .. i don't think so on 996 but again it's something i would look at .. the coding .
Thanks Carl,
I found it in the Guarantee and Maintenance Book. Looking at a couple of "Porsche code" websites, it appears there should be a code for 'With Hardtop' and a different code for 'Without Hardtop' My sticker has neither. :?
I have asked Porsche UK if they can shed any light.
Cheers Austin
I have a 2002/3 C4S and either its 'broken' or my passenger mirror doesn't automatically tilt when in reverse....
My driver's mirror returns to normal once I've manually tilted it down and then unlocked the car the next time.
I was pulling my hair out trying to save the memory seat position because each time I unlocked the car the seat would return to some strange setting. Basically in the end I took the trim off that has all the buttons in and found a little loom & plug had somehow popped off that plugs into the bottom of the memory buttons.
Once id reconnected that it all started working ok!
I have a great little guide saved as a photo on my phone that definitely works for saving the memory seat position, PM me your mobile number and I'll text it to you.
Hi There,
I've tried it twice but nothing; when I unlock the door the seat reverts back to a different position. I will try with the other key later.
Cheers

So, thanks very much for that. When it goes in for its 60,000 service, I'll ask them to look at the key.
Thanks.
