343 bhp but 1485kg and 0.37 CW....
.37cw is that the same as cd? (coefficient of drag) ?
3,267 pounds or 300lbs heavier than the Cayman S, 10lb/HP = 30HP penalty all else being equal.
Sad that the interior isn't sharper too... I thought the old Z3 M's had a great interior...

Dang - saw the CW and thougth Cwt - and tried doing some math to figure how you could come up with 0.37 as still use Cwt and then, in mild desparation, went to the BMW site - I'm going to go get another glass of wine now
cayman club sport to the rescue!
Actually the Z4 handles better much better than the z3. With the stiffness of a coupe, it should do well in the handling department.
However, I can't stand how the car looks, and I don't think it has much road feel. At least the z4s I drove did not. Perfromance numbers and specs are not everything. This is really sad as I was once nuts about my M5. Now BMWs are not even on my radar screen.

Certain to me a good performer, but ugly!/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbs_down.gif
With some of the newer cars surfacing today Porsche may need to re-think its present plan of slow and marginal horsepower increases over time. Looks like it may be time for an injection shot across the board.
While I don't think this new MZ4 will be a cross-shopping competitor to the Cayman.......it most certainly will be for the Boxster.......andin later coupe form will give the Cayman buyers something else to look at.
If I was the boss at PorscheI would drop the 2.7L in the Boxster making the 280HP S engine standard, with the3.4Cayman S engine the new Boxster S engine. The base Cayman engine should be the 3.4 with the 3.6 from the Carrera as the 'S' engine. The 911 would start with the 3.8 as standard with the 3.8 w/X51 package as the S. Now that's a cool lineup IMO.
I think the official pictures of the Z4M in Imola Red just look superb, but for GBP43k base price you are only GBP1k away from the Cayman S. Whilst the performance may be similar, I know which one I would rather own.
Despite the horsepower gap (which is nothing new), I don't believe that Porsche loses customers to BMW. BMW does lose customers to Porsche. A little research on the internet sites will reveal that many posters have previously urged Porsche to 'wake up to the competition' with little effect on Porsche's marketing philosophy. Most significantly, Porsche has not lost any sales by refusing to take up the HP challenge. I drove the Z4 3.0 when it was first introduced (my 986 lease was soon to expire) and while I was impressed by the engine, the rest of the car's performance was just ho-hum, and I could not warm up to the look of the car. I've owned several BMWs but the new Bangle generation just doesn't do anything for me, they are either ugly, dull, or both. The technology is overdone, an example of doing something just because it can be done. I just hope this doesn't represent the end of a great marque.
Atlas Croc's recommendation is right on target. Competition is a good thing, and I hope it gives Porsche a little incentive to quit being so stingy with HP.I love the way my 987 drives, but amtired of avoiding baldguys in Jags who want to drag race. Am not sure a C7S is enough, maybe I should just get a 997S ora Z06.
The 1485 KG has 75 KG added for the driver / luggage and I interpret the DIN EU1 to also mean it has a 90% tank of gas. Considering those items, it is probably very close in weightto the Cayman.
