Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes, yes, I know everyone wants to say 'it can't be done' the same way all the veterans on this board claim a single-din PCCM can't be installed in the 996 (they're very wrong).
I'm on a center-console delete kick. It's such a clean look. The problem is - I didn't know this mod existed until
after
I installed my PCCM+.
So this leaves me with 2 options.
A:
Remove center console and relocated the climate controls in some custom fashion. If you look at the Function First shift riser / center console delete (a product no longer available), they punch a cubby into the blank space without issue. If a cubby can be placed there, why can't the climate controls? To anyone familiar with moving the climate controls around, do you see any reason this wouldn't work? I think the main problem would be setting the climate controls into the carpet in a way where they don't look cheap or DIY.
B:
I sell my near-new PCCM+, purchase a PCCM, and go single-din. This is a pretty easy solution, though much less preferred.
I think it looks fine with the hvac buttons in the center console delete. How often do you push them anyway? Having the HVAC buttons front & center as in the single din setup has always seemed strange - it's like the hvac buttons are the focal point of the car. I'd keep the PCCM+ and put the buttons in the gt3 console delete.
I have the delete and would vote option B. While it looks ok with the HVAC controls in the delete, it kind of loses that clean and classic look of the uninterrupted delete.
Alright I went ahead and did it. Double-din PCCM+ with the GT3 Center Console Delete. Routed the AC into the glovebox (along with the wireless CarPlay unit). Got rid of the cheap/ugly center console, and the cheap looking AC controls all in 1 swoop. Now THIS is a clean 996 interior!! Next week I will hardwire my V1 and wire the spoiler into the dash (for symmetrical functions on both sides of the PCCM+).
Install was incredibly quick and easy. The hardest thing was getting enough slack out of the 2 climate control wire looms to squeeze it into the glovebox...That alone took me probably 30 minutes.
Thanks guys. I agree, it's pretty odd. I didn't want to wait until switching out my PCCM+ for the single din PCCM to do the delete, so this is (probably) just a temporary solution.
That being said, I really don't touch the HVAC controls much. We'll see how it is driving around this week.
Just a heads up - pun intended
working with a mate to develop a custom OEM look HVAC control , too allow those with a need, to retro mod the interior with a console delete and keep the HVAC on the dash.
still in development .
meanwhile we have now finalised our own 3d printed GT3 console delete and will.be offering it in all carpet colour options - based on avail supply.
the other option weve been developing is a delete, that has an integrated wireless charger - the link below shoes prototype. Intending too have the charger - behind the carpet

cheers
Im interested in this. I have a space grey interior and I cant find a grey carpeted OEM console delete to match. They seem to be out of production or not readily available anywhere.
The standard one piece GT3 console delete is now available .all 986/996 models
can be had in any available factory carpet colour , Paint to Sample (PTS), or ordered in machine finish (black plastic)
we continue to develop our own solution to a DBL DIN /GT3 console delete .
Proof of concept has been achieved, with our custom, micro HVAC control unit; designed too fit in the remaining space in the horseshoe.
Our designed solution, is comprehensive and allows a factory look installation of both the HVAC, within the horse shoe and the gt3 console delete.
will be for all mk1&2 986/996

on a side note :needed a new cup splitter . So i printed one
I just got a similar part, ordered it from a guy in the UK, via eBay. I don't think the HVAC controls will be noticeable, on the Console Delete I have they sit about 5 inches further back than the one shown. I have heated seat buttons to relocate as well. I will update when I have it installed...
