So I replaced 2 pulleys from Design911 put the new belt on put it back together and all is well.

When i mentioned the tensioner i only meant if it easy to replace the pulley on that- not the whole tensioner system as it seems fine.

The pulley though does have a lot of free run on it if you spin it around.

Drove the car a few hours on Saturday then parked on the drive and left it. Went to do an oil check Monday and found a sheared off pulley resting on the belt itself just next to alternator. Shocker. With help of this forum I've took the belt off and took 2 pulleys off to replace from design911. and a new belt. anyone had a pulley get destroyed like this before? it seems difficult to get the actual tensioner off to replace too or is it easier than it looks? :dont know:

I've not seen one that bad before but it looks like metal fatigue . Not sure why you want to replace the tensioner .. it's a bit of a mission to be honest .. i would just replace the pulley if it was me . 24 mm nut on the outside with a 17mm or a 15 mm nut on the inside .. 17 i think .. you need to get this dam tight .. you move the tensioner via the 24mm nut .. if this isn't tight it will just slip and not move . Obviously if you are built like a brick sht house then your tight will be more than mine !! don't snap it but make sure its tight .. very tight . http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=83491 Workshop manual is there and it should have instructions for removing the tensioner .. older model perhaps but the item is the same . I've not replaced one in more years than i can think of so cant remember offhand im afraid .

The pulley though does have a lot of free run on it if you spin it around. I think that means it is a bit knackered but not actually failing? thanks for the help, so far so good. :thumb:
