This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I searched through the forum, web and AI tools to find any information about issues with replacement idle control valve. Net is I had issue with original idle control valve getting hot and buzzing. Replaced with new valve - 996-606-160-02 but the connection on the valve is keyed slightly different. I can get the connection to work but it eventually will come loose. I'll try to pull pictures of the old/new but was wondering if anyone else came across this and if so, what they did to fix. 1999 3.4 911 Thanks.

Ah. Nice catch indeed. Thank you!!

POST 5Original post

Not Quite ..."01"and been Superseded by"02" ... Op You probably broke the locking tab and need a new connector..... The connector is not available from Porsche (Can only get it with complete engine wiring ), but get the numbers off it and it will be available from VW/Audi or from the Connector MFG's...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Porschetech3. I dug deeper into this and found the -02 updated part has one key guide on the bottom versus 2 and that guide is in the middle of the valve body. I called Pelican after this with pictures and they could not verify if this was just a bad production model as they did not have stock. However they did verify the Hamburg part does have the correct 2 guides on the bottom of the valve connector. The connector on the harness works fine as it connects to the original valve just fine. Im going to RMA the -02 for the Hamburg to see if that fixes the connecting issue and will update this post. Thanks.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ended up going with the Hamburg part. No issues. I would have preferred to keep it a Porsche part but I did not want to deal with figuring out what the updated electrical connector was. Guessing it was something from a 996.2 (2001/2 or later).

POST 9Original post

I also opted to order a Hamburg part from Pelican, but still waiting for it to arrive. The 996.2 got drive by wire throttle bodies making idle control valves obsolete.
