I had a black 2.7 RS and hated this repeated clean, dirty looking in 10 mins garbage and traded it for a "COLOR" pcar, not black, not silver, not red, it was Copper Brown Metallic, gorgeous and stayed "looking" clean even if it wasn't totally clean.

Make sure that cover is completely 1000% waterproof, as anything wet on the car's surface may "bake" the paint and discolor it......under the sun.......you won't be able to restore it with anything.......if you have PPF, that is probably a mute issue....

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

While it is an old car (99) and the clear coat isnt perfect (micro scratches and whatnot) I never had those milky spots either before or after using the Sealskin cover.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Car cover outside will scratch car when the wind blows most likely. Ideal situation is a storage unit. I would probably get a high quality ceramic tint on all of the windows that is very light and park it outside without a cover.
Car was ceramic coated 1 year ago. Parked with sunscreen on windshield. Thinking of an inside cover under an outside cover to prevent rubbing. Thoughts?
My two porsches are covered in my garage. But my Mercedes-Benz is outside in LV weather. I use the custom Fit Car Cover Mosom Plus from Coverking. I Have used this cover for many years. I highly recommend it. My opinion.
"The Mosom Plus custom car cover is made from five layers of fabric that stand up to sunlight, heavy storms, light hail, snow and rain. This cover is heavy-duty and suitable for vehicles in long term storage".

If the car sits for days/weeks at a time, use a cover. If this is a daily, you're parking inside, no cover unless you have sunlight coming in through window(s).
I have kept all of my Audi Q7s outside in the Chicago suburbs. They handle the weather well. I suspect the Macan is exactly the same. Just detail it inside and out a couple of times a year and keep the windshield covered from the inside in the hot sunny months. I have had no issues since 2007 with them. Macan should be no different.
So yeah, I would keep the 996 in the garage. Because at the end if the day, the Macan is a utility vehicle for transportation that is a future trade-in The 996 is a classic sportscar for keeps.
Car covers are never a great solution for extended periods of time. Ive been using a CarCapsule for around 4 years now. Though its a bit of a PITA (takes 20 min or so to put the car in and take it out) its far superior to any available cover & protects the car from all sorts of potential damage including rodents Its not cheap at around $1k US, but far less expensive than repairs to paint, body or wiring/electronics
www.carcapsule.com
I use SealSkin covers for the wife's Defender. It is a PITA covering and uncovering but I'll do it to keep the sun from eating away at the truck here in Houston! Sun is very intense down here!
So here is what I've decided to do. If freshly washed and not going to be driven within the next few days or longer an outside cover goes on. If dirty then it sits naked until I get around to washing it. Ceramic coating helps but a dirty black car looks so, so ugly! When clean they really pop!
Before I got the car capsule, I tried a Sealskin cover. It had nice soft material (felt type) on the inside, though it wasnt a tight/form fit like the Porsche cover. The first time I covered the car (in summer, but totally dry - no rain) I had it on for about 3 days When I removed the cover there were two cloudy white spots in the paint - one on the rear quarter (about the size of a nickle) and one on the roof (about the size of two nickles side by side - sort of an irregular oval shape). Sealskin refused any warranty or replacement coverage - terrible company imo - took 0 responsibility (this was all within about a month of receiving the cover) I wound up using it to cover my outdoor sofa/deck furniture. The spot on the rear quarter went away fairly quickly within a week or two The one on the roof took well over 6 months - probably closer to a year to disappear. Ive never had any further problems with either these areas or anywhere else on the car. While it is an old car (99) and the clear coat isnt perfect (micro scratches and whatnot) I never had those milky spots either before or after using the Sealskin cover. They dont breathe - big no-no for a car cover. Buyer Beware!
No issues here but agree on the fitment. I ended up attaching 3 more anchor points in the middle to keep it from blowing up like a ballon. Ended up getting the same kind of strapping and clips as they had on it. Works great now but I did call them and let them know they need a redesign. Went in one ear and out the other. No issues with spots either. Thats seems weird to be honest.
Weird I agree! But the only thing I could attribute it to was the cover as I never had it occur prior or since Honestly, all I really expected of them was a return/refund as it was within 30 days of receipt (I would have gladly paid a restocking fee) but they couldnt be bothered. Crappy fit, crappy product, crappy service = CRAPPY COMPANY Nuff said
Good decision. You should only put a cover on a freshly washed car. Otherwise you'll scratch the paint. The 996 has very soft paint which scratches very easily and you'll notice the scratches on a dark color.
I ended up with fine scratches and trapped moisture before I knew what caused it. Using a cover outside did it, so now I skip it and just keep the car clean.
The problem with car covers long-term, is they only protect the outside upper portion of the car leaving the bottom totally exposed (to mice or any other pesky critter that comes along and finds a nice dry spot to nest) - all this really does is give you a false sense of security.
I have the wonderful problem of when I park my car in the garage at night, the cat likes to climb up on it, leaving paw prints all over it and actually a few very fine scratches! But he doesnt climb on it when I leave it outside. So if I park it IN the garage, I have to put a cover on it.
Yeah, "really pop!", 10 minutes later attracts any dust-whatever from 1000 miles away and looks like crap. Car was a 3rd place at PCA concours winner, even complimented on by Peter Porsche and Hans Fuhrmann.
My cat does the same thing, except I never park outside. I have a soft Porsche-OEM-brand cover for inside and I just put up an unused big window screen to "close" garage door (inside the house) so he stays out of that part of garage and still does his "critter (mice) patrols". When I am in this part of garage he can come in and is satisfied jumping into open frunk, lays down, no problem. Cat & I learned to "agree" what was OK, and we can live with it. Now he knows NOT to jump on car. My cat is "inside" cat, no outdoor stuff. Usually clean feet, no front claws, so very little scratches, etc. You sort of have to make your own rules and methods with a cat. My cat is my buddy for 15 years now. He stays, the C4S stays. Peaceful co-existence.
YMMV
This is a question and conversation that needs to always be accompanied by a location detail. we all live in very different climates and covers can be effective in some, and really harmful to your paint in others.
I’ve kept mine outside before and skipped a cover until I tried a breathable, snug one from
this Canadian car cover store
. It was fine as long as the car was freshly washed, but the moment I got lazy, dust worked its way under and left light marks. Indoors it’s great, outdoors it’s a bit of a gamble, even with a good cover.
No offense but a 4 cylinder Macan isnt a 75K car. Dealer MSRP is irrelevant.
A well maintained 996 manual coupe will be worth more than a 4 cylinder SUV in a few years.
Leave the Q5 outside.
Make sure that cover is completely 1000% waterproof, as anything wet on the car's surface may "bake" the paint and discolor it......under the sun.......you won't be able to restore it with anything.......if you have PPF, that is probably a mute issue....
