i lost the ability to change gear in my 996 c4 on sunday, i had to drive from cardiff to kingston upon thames in london ( 160 miles approx ) in 2nd gear at 5000 rpm doing 45 mph, it was a very depressing 5 hour drive.

I had some work done on mine last week after the start of a similar problem, fortunately the excellent guys who service my car fixed the issue for me, so I didn't need new cables.

i lost the ability to change gear in my 996 c4 on sunday, i had to drive from cardiff to kingston upon thames in london ( 160 miles approx ) in 2nd gear at 5000 rpm doing 45 mph, it was a very depressing 5 hour drive. Now the car is facing downhill in my parking spot at home, its stuck here because i cant get reverse gear either. I have pulled off the centre console and investigated the manthey racing short shifter i fitted, no problems there and everything visible from inside the car seems fine, so its clear that some thing has broken further down the system from the actuall cables. What is this likely to be ? Its going to JZM on Monday but i just want an idea of whats gone wrong and how much i should brace myself for thank you !

rjcarrera4gt3, it sounds like the gear cables may have snapped/come away at the gearbox end. I had some work done on mine last week after the start of a similar problem, fortunately the excellent guys who service my car fixed the issue for me, so I didn't need new cables.
