few are trading their 996tt's for 997tt's and the such, specially that 997tt's are available used now.

Is a shame I replaced the clutch, as I could have sold it on and the new owner would be none the wiser as it wasn't critical, I just had the option to have it changed for the cost of the parts only, so thought it a good deal.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The most serious enquiry was a potential sale, but was lost as the guy couldn't come to see the car when he fist enquired (was in secure parking when I had the problem with the alarm) and by the time I got the car back from Porsche (problem fixed under warranty) the guy was away on business, then I was away, by which time he had bought another car.
I have been trying to sell my 996tt (although not overly actively) for a few weeks now with no joy, no hurry to sell as my other car won't be ready till mid July, but I can live without the car - have only done a few hundred miles in the past few months!
Have had offers for part exchanges on an Exige S and a Countach replica both totalling about £40k (based on the counterparties valuations of their own cars and cash offered on top), but only three cash buyer enquiries, no one has come to view (or more importantly drive) the car. I am sure once people see the car and drive it, see how 483BHP feels then they are more likely to part with their well earned cash!

Two others giving cheeky offers, highest being £37,500 but he wouldn't go any higher. I did have another enquiry, from a Pastor who's church was going to buy the car, never used a capital letter in his emails and had appaling spelling and grammar, leading me to believe he was not a native English speaker, I politely refused.
Car is advertised in a few places (inc. on this forum), at £39,999. Car cost me £40k back in December, in the knowledge it needed a full major service, brake fluid change and brake pads all round, which has all been done, inc. a new clutch to boot. All in all the car has cost me about £43k.
Am I asking too much for the car, or is it simply the market and my car being a "niche" being an x50 with the aerokit? I know I am struggling against cheaper and newer standard turbos out there, but I have also seen normal turbos priced higher than mine.
Should I just stick with it at £40k and wait for the more descerned buyer who recognises the value of the x50 kit or am I asking too much?

Personally, I think an 01 approaching 50k miles as a private sale might be slightly too much at £40k...really more £38k.
As with any car, I'd have a look in Autotrader/Top Marques/Indy's and see what they're going for. The only way I've ever been able to sell a car privately is to be one of the cheapest in the ads.
Understand what p/x you've been offered for your car and then decide how much more money you want to make on top of this, to make the hassle of a) dealing with the general public and b) handling that sort of cash, worth while.
I would imagine that people are generally a little nervous about spending £40k privately, as there's no come back at all, so this probably explains the lack of buyers. It's fairly specialist, so quite different to selling a BMW for a Boxster.
With that sort of money, if I was offered £36-37k p/x, I'd probably do the deal (as long as the cost of change was reasonable). If you're buying from an OPC, expect a) shocking trade-in and b) little or no discount at all....so it makes it a little harder. I read somewhere that OPC need to make a minimum of £6k on turning the car around (from trade-in to re-sale price), to cover the overheads, warranty and prep....so consider that as well.
Cheers,
GD
I won't give an opinion on the price however what I can tell you is that it is very very quiet out there at the moment for Porsche.
Enquiries are very low as we speak on the back of a very strong March and April. May was average and June looks poor.
Revisit the price perhaps but hang on in there until more buyers are in the market.
Need to sell privately as I am not trading in. Already own my next car, is in having some work done to the engine until July.
It does have Porsche warranty, so there is some "come back" if there are any major issues with the car, that was what convinced me to buy privately. Would imagine the Porsche warranty is as good as anything you would get from an independant!
Yeah, and they have sold it at that price too!
The obvious difference being the age, mine a December 01 (I'd have waited a couple of weeks and had an 02 myself if I bought it new) and that an 03.
With respect to a full inspection etc., mine has had a full major service only a few hundred miles ago, would have thought that counted, does have warranty, but only to October (can still be extended for another two years).
Spec is largely similar, although I do have the aerokit - which is obvioulsy to each individuals taste. It also has the DMS exhaust costing about £2k, however I realise this can increase or decrease the value - depending on who is buying!
No mention of when the last service was done to compare, or if it has had the clutch replaced.

Could happily have sold at a grand lower otherwise!
I guess with what Jamie is saying about the market and if you think the price is fair, then you need to hang on in there, unless you want a quick sale.
I would say that an 03 versus an 01 would make quite a price difference, plus the fact that RSJ are in more expensive side of the Indy's (but they have a very good reputation and what they sell at is reasonable).
The Porsche warranty does help with major items, but not smaller items and these can add up to quite a lot (exactly as I've discovered with my warranty, eg. front pads/discs, both front suspension arms, CD changer).
Of course, you're right, in so much that the seller should check all these things out and anything major does have the warranty backup.
I guess you pay your money and you take you choice.
Best of luck with the sale.
Cheers, will keep it at that price for now. Originally had it up for £42k and that is when I got my most serious caller!
Brought it down to £40k in line with others available, is always difficult to price a car like mine as there aren't many direct comparissons about, price differences year to year are more difficult
If I still have it in a month then I'll consider lowering the price, I'll just try to get some more use out of it in the mean time, has cost me nearly £10 a mile so far
A very wise friend once told me that if you are having trouble selling something put up the price. In that instance it worked.I would put it back to 42k.
As a matter of interest a similar car in Australia would sell for around A$150,000.On current exchange rate that is 72,000 pounds. We might have good roads and not too much traffic but we pay through the nose for the cars!
Cridfords - 2003 Turbo X50: 47,000 miles £ 45,995
Dove House - 2004 Turbo X50: 55,000 miles £ 43,995
911Virgin - 2002 Turbo X50: 45,000 miles £ 44,995
RSJ - 2003 Turbo X50: 62,000 miles £ 43,994
Hillmoren - 2003 Turbo X50: 47,000 miles £ 49,995
Private - 2002 Turbo X50: 39,000 miles £ 50,000
IMO it looks as though the price you asking is about right but there are a lot of cars out there, looks like the market isn't moving
I think it is the market, concerns about fuel costs, VED, credit crunch, and other general misery
I can remember about a week or so ago via Post, a Forum member picking up as a Private Sale a 996TT for £32,000.
So it may mean lowering your sights a bit.
Sorry Big Bob :nooo:
Yeah, that is what I based my price on, as it has just had a full major service / inspection and has a Porsche warranty then (IMO) there isn't a lot of difference between buying privately or buying from a dealer, other than I don't do finance!
My dad said the same, people are suspicious if something is priced too low! He couldn't give away his old freezer, advertised it for £50 and someone bought it!
Got my best lead when it was up at £42k!
I think it reflects a few things :
first loads of TT owners are replacing their car nows - you can see by the influx of TT's available - when I was looking for mine, few months back there were much fewer available. few are trading their 996tt's for 997tt's and the such, specially that 997tt's are available used now.
second the credit crunch, fuel costs and the such; they are taking their toll.
third TT's are a tad more expensive to run and a major service bill plus a few bits and pieces can get crickey - mine just came from one and with warranty had a lovely 2.4k bill. and it is a pristine example, although im quite fussy with it and could get away with much less...
From what I've seen , you have a few problems :
- if you price your car too low ( 36/37 ) you have serious buyers that would walk away because they think the car is too cheap theres something wrong/ hidden with it
- also you will have dreamers that will try to haggle the price down to 33 or so
- if you price your car too high well, you get the idea.
I believe that 38/37.5 would be a nice price - offer viewings and test drives ( you driving, otherwise you'll have to replace tyres before sale... ) and it should sell. to be honest I would go for your car if I didnt had one.
Aftermarket mods will scare most of the people - now Im looking for an exahust but before I wouldnt touch a 996tt ( x50 or not ) that had a mod on it - usually scares people away. I'll take that DMS off you for a standard one
