Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used the cover I have from the old ln retrofit which is the same width and bore.

I got a replacement m96/04 engine 00-01 3.4 5 chain without much history I checked it for boar score and it looks beautiful supposedly had 90k but it's super clean inside I replaced the 4-5 timing chains and Vario cam pads and main timing chains guide rails and buttoned the engine back up and now I'm doing the IMS and it's got a Single row bearing but I think a dual row cover and there's no spacers in there am I missing something or did someone hodge podge this?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got a replacement m96/04 engine 00-01 3.4 5 chain without much history I checked it for boar score and it looks beautiful supposedly had 90k but it's super clean inside I replaced the 4-5 timing chains and Vario cam pads and main timing chains guide rails and buttoned the engine back up and now I'm doing the IMS and it's got a Single row bearing but I think a dual row cover and there's no spacers in there am I missing something or did someone hodge podge this? I'll add pictures the bearing feels fine but the only thing holding it is the snap ring the stud is a mildly tight fit but the bearing can slip over the shaft all the way back to the cover

POST 2Original post

Was the bearing pressed to the back of the ims or was it flush with the circlip? Looks like an LN single row. The shaft still rode on the bearing, was just able to move forward. Guess it is the pelican kit that now is branded rennline. They just didn't install it correctly. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...0aAohIEALw_wcB

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After some research it looks like the Pelican part without the spacers installed. But according to my engine number It should have been a single row bearing from factory but they swapped the dual row cover? Seems weird

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is the IMS shaft different between the single row and dual row engines

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 20574562

Yes as PT said the depth is 14 mm vs 20mm to the groove. I have an 01 and it was a dual row. Engine number 06920 Also this is the bearing I use. https://www.skf.com/us/products/roll...2RS1TN9%2FMT33

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20574894

How did you retain this in the Ims without the wire lock groove thanks Will

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 20574923

This bearing is the same dimension as the LN double row retrofit. 20.6MM wide. That is the depth to the groove. Used a Spiroloc snap ring. I have replaced it twice with this bearing.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting 🤔 Did you need a spacer to the cover or use a specific cover?

POST 9Original post

I used the cover I have from the old ln retrofit which is the same width and bore. You could use a stock cover with a spacer. Original bearing was 23.82mm wide versus the 20.6mm.

POST 11Original post

With all the contention over these bearings over the years its interesting to see a change in the recommendation. New bearing still has one side with a dust cover and one without?
