Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've been quoted for a fully fitted unit, with bluetooth module and video ipod cable at £650, which seems to be a fantastic price.

Disconnecting the fibre connections to the CDR23 and amp is not a problem either ' Porsche Germany'

As for price, more than I wanted to spend but I figured I've got a system that'll meet all my needs and will still be of value when I change cars.

Does this solve that by "the volume being run through the speakers" as it were?

Suggestion
You wont be able to use your Porsche amp and you will need crossovers to drive the dasboard and door speakers from one pair of the Kenwood amplified outputs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've recently become a 996 owner and I'm looking to add an aftermarket solution to fulfill both sat nav and bluetooth telephone requirements.
I currently have the single DIN CDR-23, it's non-Bose but sound wise seems better than the Bose equipped TT I used to have.
I've been looking at a double-DIN conversion and the Kenwood DXN-7200 has caught my, primarily because it's cheap, being end of life.
I've been quoted for a fully fitted unit, with bluetooth module and video ipod cable at £650, which seems to be a fantastic price.
Now I'm not sure if that also includes the crossovers. They'd use the existing amp and speakers.
Anyone else familiar with this setup, any pros and cons before I take the plunge?
I'm used to TomTom sat nav, how does the Garmin software on the DXN-7200 compare. I believe it also uses the Parrot software for bluetooth phone.
Many thanks.
I had mine installed last summer. The Garmin is heaps better than TomTom. You wont be able to use your Porsche amp and you will need crossovers to drive the dasboard and door speakers from one pair of the Kenwood amplified outputs. The other pair are used to drive the rear speakers. You must match the impedance of the crossovers to the speakers otherwise the wrong frequencies will go to the speakers and they'll sound Naff.
Porsche sell a bezel for when the aircon control unit is relocated to the bottom of the centre console.

Ray, many thanks for the advice.
In the end I've managed to secure a deal on the DNX8220BT with iPod video adapter. It's being fitted today, as suggested they're bypassing the amp and fitting crossovers to drive the speakers.
The GPS is hopefully going to be hidden in some space around the dash speaker assembly. The mic is going to be positioned near the rear view mirror though I believe there's a spot on the dash for the Porsche mic.
Porsche dealer ordered the bezel for the aircon relocation but what's turned up isn't right so the parts guy is re-ordering. From the PET diagram it didn't look right, too square, even though it was on the diagram for the 996 with a double DIN PCM setup. I'm told it just clips around the aircon control unit so I can fit this myself when it turns up.
Hi mate,
the GPS antenea fits in the middle of the dash. There is a place for it under the cover that has the alarm flashing led. This will need to be removed carefully by squeeezing inwards - otherwise the taps will break off and it's £70+ to replace.
I hope you enjoy your new system!

All fitted and working just need the bezel surround for the climate unit and then complete. Not had much of a play as yet, on a 2 hour drive this afternoon was very impressed and I suspect I've not even touched the surface. Sat Nav, I've been a TomTom user and the Garmin setup compares favourably. My HTC TyTN 2 is paired and sync'd but as yet not had a chance to try it out. The iPod integration is impressive, so easy to pick an album or playlist and set it going.
I had the work done by Technicar in Sheffield, they're known by the Porsche main dealer and got a thumbs up. Very pleased with the install.
As for price, more than I wanted to spend but I figured I've got a system that'll meet all my needs and will still be of value when I change cars. The price all-in was £999. That was for a brand new DNX8220BT and a KCA-IP300V video ipod lead, crossovers and fitting.
Well Sheffield is close enough for me so count me in for supply and fit!
And just seen you can add a reversing camera so that the Mrs can see what she is reversing into :floor:
A few pictures, please excuse the quality.
Only after it was all fitted did I wonder whether the climate unit could have gone where the CD holder is and the cubby hole stayed at the bottom. The setup below seems common from what I'm told. As you can see just waiting on the right bezel for the climate unit.
A quick shot of the main source menu screen, if anyone has any questions about functionality then I can check and take pics if required.
The iPod and a USB connector have been wired through to the glove box. The mic is wired next to the interior light.
Looks great!!
I'm tempted!!
If a group buy can be negotiated I might drive "up North too"!!!
Ok can anyone answer this one?
Whhen I have the volume up I can't hear the Sat Nav's camera warning on my Garmin 660!
Bit of a pain obviously!!!
Does this solve that by "the volume being run through the speakers" as it were?
My E class Merc's Command unit kills the music on giving directions which is great!
that looks very neat. Does the install kill the MOST system connections? I mean if you wanted to put it back to stock, could you?
I know it's a bit ludicrous to think why you'd want to but a lot of s/h buyers seem to hanker after "originality" so I'm thinking have it out come resale time.
