Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, lately at low speeds I seem to hear a squeaking noise from the rear suspension, like riding on charriot springs. Some suggested arms, bushes or suspension . Ideas ? Is any of these items covered by Porsche extended warranty or they classify on the wear and tear items ?

POST 2Original post

It could be any of the above and extremely unlikely they will be warranty items as they will be clased as wear and tear. If it squeaks as you bounce the suspension up and down, then it's likely to be the bushes or suspension. If it makes the same noise when you kick your tyre (very hard), then it's likely to be the control arm. Control arms are about £400-500 to replace on each side. You typically only replace one. Bushes, better to do both sides. The reason why I know this, is that I have exactly the same problem from the front and I watched what the mechanic did to diagnose the fault (after he drove it for a while). Mine is more of a rattle/crashing noise at low speeds, rather than a squeak, so I suspect it could be the bushes.

POST 3Original post

Bushes on the front and rear control arms are made of polyurethane and so will degrade over time. On a 2001 car they could have simply worn/degraded. Option is to replace them with Powerflex bushes, or buy a whole new track arm, or a refurb'd track arm. Replacing the bushes alone is a little cheaper (parts less, but more hours labour needed). There are also 2 front and 2 rear anti roll bar bushes which can also degrade. These are c.£10 each I think. All of these are plastic, so arent covered under warranty, which is fair enough I guess. In my view, the only argument you could have about this is that its not great for a component like this to only last 5-10yrs/50-70k miles.
