Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suspected cause
Its probably a good topic to explore water flows from clogged drains, sunroof rubber leaks and window leaks.
Leading evidence: 'good topic' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'good topic' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with aaron' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I drove around with no seal at all in the rain and no leaks, while waiting for glass guy appointment to remove and replace the glass trim.

That trim can get bent when trying to replace the seal, and then the seal wont attach.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone, I'm stumped.
Today after some heavy rain I noticed water dripping from the headliner, behind the rear passenger seat.
Anyone ever ran into this problem? Any ideas where it might be coming from?
I really don't want to take apart the headliner. See attached image for leak location.
The area in front of the leak seems wet, so I am hoping its coming from the rear side glass? Not sure.
All I know is the rear window is glued to the body. so Id be a little surprised if it was coming through there, unless it has been removed and not replaced correctly. The rubber seal you see around the outside is mostly cosmetic, and for wind I guess. But it attaches to an aluminum trim piece that attaches to the glass. That trim can get bent when trying to replace the seal, and then the seal wont attach. I drove around with no seal at all in the rain and no leaks, while waiting for glass guy appointment to remove and replace the glass trim.
When I try, I can move the rear window around 1/16 inch in each direction, is this amount of movement normal — or does it indicate that someone removed the glass before?
Are you talking about the rear side window, or the back windshield? To be clear, I was talking about the back windshield because I think thats what EVOM was referring to.
No there shouldn't be any play in the window itself. Your seal is probably worn and cracked allowing water to seep in. You can get black silicon from Home Depot or Lowes and use it. I would use masking tape and tape on the window and the body then apply the silicon flatten with your finger then remove the tape. It'll look factory and solve your water issue.
Hmm, that doesnt sound right. The water could even be coming in through the upper corner of your passenger door window, I know that there is a little moisture on the inside of the window glass between it and the weatherstripping on mine after I wash my car sometimes. If your rear side window isnt fully secure, between that, the passenger door window, and heavy rain at speed, maybe that led to some water intrusion. Might not even happen again if all the same conditions dont present themselves.
Sorry about the leak. Its probably a good topic to explore water flows from clogged drains, sunroof rubber leaks and window leaks. Where the water goes and how to prevent/fix it.
Good luck in solving the headliner water. Fwiw. I just had my indy go thru the drain system to make sure it wasnt clogged and replace the sunroof rubber. My car doesnt see alot of rain and crappy weather anymore but I figured I would make sure the drains were open and the sunroof didnt have a problem as a jic.
But I would worry if any of the windows were loose for whatever reason.
Thank you, the thing is my car does not have a sunroof, that's why I am really surprised by this.
I will try to do some research and update the thread.

@RennPart
. Just saw a video that Rennthusiast did on YouTube with Aaron that his 996 GT3 had a rear window leak. Aaron may be able to provide some thoughts.
Roof drains are also there for cars with no sunroof, because there are holes for the roof mounts, etc. check this video:

There is another video of two guys working on a 996, but I couldn't find it
