Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

fitted 19's to my 996, against the advice offered to me on this forum i must add, and had them off again inside two weeks.

Suggestion
plenty of people running 19's on the 996 and some with 20's but do yourself a favour and stick to 18's

Some people have fitted 19" without problem (you might want to check to see if you need your arches rolling though, with that offset), but if your concern is about the push out, why don't you use spacers on 18"?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi - I'm After a bit of advise from you guys,
I am looking into fitting some new wheels to my 1st gen narrow bodied 996 cab.
It has Sport Design Classics on it that need refurbing / new tyres so i'm thinking about a new set of 19's.
I have been doing some searching regarding offsets and wheels sizes, and i have found that my classics are -
Front 7.5" ET50 with 225/40/18
Rear 10" ET65 with 265/35/18
I found a entry that said mk2 GT3 wheels can be fitted to a narrow bodied 996 as the GT3 is itself a narrow body. Those are 18" and have 11" rears with an offset of 63mm.
I know 996 widebody 996 TT+C4S have 11" rears with an offset of 45mm
There are loads of replica wheels for sale on Ebay etc with rear wheels of only 9.5" to fit 996/boxster - I don't want to fit skinny rims on the back of my motor.
On the US ebay there are loads of people selling 19" wheels with 11" rears with 67mm offset claiming they fit 996 narrows. I have seen some pictures of american style 911's with the wheels sticking out (yuk i like mine in or flush)
The wheels i am looking at are genuine porsche 997 S wheels -
Front 19 x 8.5 ET57
Rear 19 x 11 ET67
They are being sold in the US for a paltry $1300 ! so even if i buy new tyres should still be pretty cheap.
So all in all has anybody fitted 19" x 11" on the back of there 1st gen 996 narrow body ???
I know i have went on a bit but im new here...and thanks - hope your still awake !!
19" are not OEM. Porsche never supplied 19" for 996, even under Tequipment.
Some people have fitted 19" without problem (you might want to check to see if you need your arches rolling though, with that offset), but if your concern is about the push out, why don't you use spacers on 18"? You can fit 5mm no problem, probably wider.
fitted 19's to my 996, against the advice offered to me on this forum i must add, and had them off again inside two weeks. totally upset the car. bump steer was mega due to the increase in unsprung weight and the general feel from the steering was different
offsets were correct and rolling radius was spot on and they did look the dogs danglies but i am now back on 18's and the car is much better for it
plenty of people running 19's on the 996 and some with 20's but do yourself a favour and stick to 18's
spend your money on suspension if you are just wanting to fill the arches a bit more
my advice at least, for what that's worth........and remember , we want pics of what you end up doing :thumb:
regards
andy
Thanks for info Andy / GD,
I don't want to mess around with the wheels if it's going to screw up the handling - Lets face it it's one of the cars best points !!!
I think i will get my Sport classics reconditioned - maybe get the centres painted gunmental.
Again thanks,
Graham.
Take a look at the Porsche Shop for 19" Wheel Deals based on Victor Equipment Rims and Yokohama Advan Sport Tyres, about £1500 the lot to my memory. Regards Big Bob
