Suggestion
They changed where the S goes in name because of the frequent confusion between people writing PS4S or PS4s, which could mean one Pilot Sport 4S or a pair of Pilot Sport 4 tyres.

I've been running the PS5's on my DD BMW for the last couple of months (and I run PS4S on my 996) the PS5's are excellent, if anything I'd say the sidewalls are slightly firmer than those on the PS4S's.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My Cayman 987 S is needing new boots, it currently has N rated PS2 on but no longer has a warranty and I'am sticking with Michelin.
The two choises are PS5 or PS4S, the car does not get tracked so this is pushing me towards the PS5, on Tyre Reviews site they seem to be quite evenly matched so it might just be down to price and availability.
What do you all think.
Not tried PS5 yet, but my C GTS 4.0 came with PS4S and I think they are pretty much wonderful in almost all conditions. (I do have winter tyres, but PS4S are much better in the wet than I had expected.) Wouldn't hesitate to use again, although latest Continentals are getting rave reviews.
I just found out Michelin don't do a PS5 in 265/35x19 so it will be PS4S then...ah well.
Thank's anyway.
Just for a bit of info my next door neighbour has recently had a set of PS5's fitted to his Mercedes E Class and he is very impressed with them...one to keep an eye on perhaps.

Continental Contact Sport 7s. Phenomenal tyre and has moved the game on since the PS4 which is now about 8 years old. I have the CS7 on my Cayman R and it is brilliant dry or wet. Steering feel is particularly good.
The last Contis I had were Sport Contact 5 and they wore out very quickly compared to the previous SC2 and 3 I'd fitted.
They were excellent but the increased wear made me think Conti had improved them at the cost of longevity?
Anyone care to comment on SC7 durability?
I have PS4S on my 981. They're fine and wearing well but feel they have stiffer sidewalls than the previous GY F1 A2 which I moved away from due to splits near the rim on both fronts, spotted at MOT.

On P Zeros just now which had already seen a good bit of action when I bought the car but haven't been particularly impressed with them, especially in the wet, so its either PS4S or the Contis. Seems from the chat on here that Porsche aren't as strict about N rated tyres so going to give the Contis a shot.

Isn't the confusing thing there is a PS5 and a PS 5S or something weird like that? The pilot sport 5 being the ps4 replacement (ie very much a road tyre) but the 5S is the PS4S replacement (which was the supersport replacement previously)....
That's as I understand it ... but I've not been able to find PSS5's ? in GT4 or GT3 sizes ... or N rated ?
The Contisport 7's were only available with rears N rated not fronts. Hence PS4S by default.
Does anyone know what the Constisport 7 sidewalls (as in stiffness) are like compared to PS4S? I am actually looking for a softer side wall for an upcoming long European tour in a 997.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Just had some rears delivered for my 987.1 S.
Goodyear Eagle F1 Ays. N0. Replacing the same. Fronts are also F1s.
£405 delivered, 265/35/19. Camskill. My lad will be fitting them tomorrow.

Very reasonably priced too
Agreed. I went from Michelins to these and prefer them.

Only
you could make such a simple tyre review SO complex !!
There is no such thing as a PS5S, only a PS5 :

I'm not trying to be pedantic for its own sake for once! - am sure I had seen this tyre pop up on some headlines last year where it was referred to as the ps4s replacement and I don't think i imagined that as I'm not that old....(yet!)

Thanks for all the info lads...its much appreciated.

I probably would have went for the PS5 but Michelin don't do a 265/35x19 in the PS5's, so my only choice was to got for the PS4S, they will be a big step up from the PS2's that's on the car just now.
If anyone is looking for Michelin's just now they have a tyre deal on till the end of the month.

That document is dated 2020, the PS5 was only launched in early 2022 IIRC .

A Porsche, or other manufacturer specific fitment with an “S” designation perhaps ?

Slippy - while I don't want to seem OCD but...
https://www.tyrelabelling.eu/EU/2020-740/en/688028...
the PS5 pdf was also dated 2020
And I did find the original article re the PS 5S thing....
https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/Exclusive-The-...
and the tyre does actually seem to exist on the michelin website too so it probably
is
a thing no with multiple manufacturer stamps?
https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-pil...
The Pilot Sport S 5 does indeed exist and is a (sort of) replacement for the Pilot Sport 4S.
They changed where the S goes in name because of the frequent confusion between people writing PS4S or PS4s, which could mean one Pilot Sport 4S or a pair of Pilot Sport 4 tyres.
The Pilot Sport S 5 -PSS5 - was originally only available in a few 21" sizes. more sizes available.
The Pilot Sport 5 replaces the PS4. Michelin regard the PS5 as a lower performance tyre than the existing PS4S
