Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Did an oil change (1st one since having the car for a month now) and found some 'things' in the oil filter ... Engine is 2002 2.7 with 160k kilometers on it. Flushed the engine with an engine flush (left idling for 20 minutes) right before oil change. Most parts are plasticy (some deteriorate when rubbing between fingers) and there is one, non magnetic piece of metal (gold-ish color) What do you think .. been planning on changing the IMS anyway since I have no knowledge if it's ever been done.

POST 2Original post

You are at the mileage where I'm pretty sure the source of your plastic is your cam chain tensioner wear pads. I've had a couple of M96s apart, one of indeterminate mileage and the other of 106,000 miles and both sets of pads were trashed.

POST 3Original post

If you feel better with ims done do it. Personally id want to be sure I needed it Sent from my SM-G991U1 using Tapatalk

I concur for the cam chain tensioner pads, the brown plastic. I would drop the oil pan to see if there are more metal bits.
