Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It's an odd one, but it sounds like the problem is unrelated to the ABS/PSM light coming on.

Suggestion
When the car starts, it does a self check of the PSM system and if it's ok, it appears to clear any faults in the OBC....very annoying.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

my 2000 996 c2 has now had this problem for quite a long time and after 4 visits to the garage its still happening!
the ABS & PSM light are constantly lit on the dash!
1st garage visit new MAF sensor
2nd visit new t-joint as 1 was cracked (supposedly)
3rd visit couldn't find any probs and the light didn't come on for the mechanic (typical!)
4th visit new abs sensor switch
its been hooked up to the diagnostics computer every time and this shows no problems WTF!
and guess what drove 5 miles from the garage and hey presto lights on again
now i am getting totally peeved off
any ideas would be appreciated, its going back in on tuesday and if i can give the mechanic any ideas hopefully they might take them on board!
thanks in advance
It sounds like one of the sensors has an intermittent fault, if the MAF has been changed.
Does the fault come on when you are going around a bend or when you're in a straight line? If it just comes on when you're going in a straight line, it's possible it's the sensor somewhere in the throttle (although it could the wheel revolution sensor). If it's when you're going around bend/down a sharp hill, it's probably in the wheel area.
When the car starts, it does a self check of the PSM system and if it's ok, it appears to clear any faults in the OBC....very annoying.
To get an accurate diagnosis, you need to take it to the garage with the fault still showing, but do not turn the engine off (I appreciate this can be tricky!!). The mechanic can then plug the diagnostic tool in and read the fault before it gets cleared.
the lights come on when i start the car up everytime now!
the garage i take it to is millbrooke in sheffield!
i have seen a post that sum1 had a brake switch replaced and this cured the problem, is this a easy job to do myself?
I know the guys at Millbrooke and they seem very capable. A lot of people trust them with their Fezza's, Lambo's, Porsche's so I'm guessing if they can't find the problem the OPC won't either.
It's an odd one, but it sounds like the problem is unrelated to the ABS/PSM light coming on.
Hope you get it sorted. :thumb:
yeah the guys at millbrooke know what they are doing, but i just thought sum1 on here might have had the same problem and know how to fix it.
i'm just hoping they can get to the bottom of it on tuesday and then all hunky dorey ready for a trip over to germany! to hit those autobahns!
