Sounds like it will be a monster, at 550BHP my x50 was powerfull enough, made such a difference over the 483 it is running now!!

Hence I am having Reyland do the conversion using the seperate bells and discs...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

500Bhp just isn't enough so just got the flexible visa to order a set of brand new Hybrid K24/18g turbos and ported headers. Also opted for upgraded 1bar wastegates.
Should be good to see 640-650bhp.

Anyone else running high bhp's in the UK?
Hybrids are turbos that have been modified with larger compressor wheels and also ported out... the K24/18g Hybrid turbos running a 1.2bar have fast spool up like stock K16 turbos and out perform the K24 X50 turbos... So turbo lag is minimum, I did have the option to go for larger Garet turbos that could push 700+bhp but there are not direct bolt on and also produce more turbo lag that I didn't want...
Once it's built anyone is welcome to pop up and have a drive out, but it will prob not stay like that long, have a complete engine re-build in mind...
Little write up about the K24 turbos from "6speedonline"
A stock k24 has a 30lb compressor. We're putting a 40lb compressor on them. We find that the 996tt engine produces about 9.25hp/lb/min of air, so a stock k24 with 30lbs/min of air times two of course can make about 30x2x9.25=555hp at the crank before it runs out of air and maintains some sort of efficiency. The k24/18g with 40lbs available is good for 40x2x9.25=740hp at the crank. Then, depending on the chassis dyno you're on will be anyones guess as to the power at the wheels.... Assuming a 12-15% loss for generic stuff would net you just sub 500's at the tires with k24's, where the 18g's have been good for 630-650whp.
Turbo for turbo, the response is very similar for the k24 and the k24/18g. However, with a good exhaust, nice tune and a low restriction air filter, we vastly improve the boost response over the factory k24's in stock condition.
Just ask PaulieWalnuts about his recent experience with 'tweety' when we did the k24/18g kit on his Gt2 at the TX2K8 event ;p
Sounds like it will be a monster, at 550BHP my x50 was powerfull enough, made such a difference over the 483 it is running now!! I can't imagine what 600+ would be like! Any suspension mods or bigger brakes?
Still no additional cooling?
Are they comparing a k24/18g with sports exhaust etc. against a stock k24 with stock exhaust though when the say "in stock condition"? Pick up and low end torque was vastly improved with the addition of my DMS exhaust with 100 cell cats and also their remap compared to the stock k24 setup.
Obviously porting them out will help with the airflow, but usually bigger compressor wheels need more air to start spinning and so increase lag, the net effect of the larger compressor wheel and increased airflow pretty much net each other out. (Well this is the info I got from people when talking about the K04 hybrids and various other IHI hybrod options for the VAG engines). The net effect is you have a turbo with roughly the same spool response, but capable of flowing more air, so getting bigger gains at the top end of the rev range where the smaller turbos max out.
Standard Suspension is good enough but will prob be replaced at one point in the year as we hope to track day this vehicle once complete.
Bigger Brakes are a must and I'm in the process of looking into this.
When the engine gets totally re-built we will put a larger oil cooler in, but taking to the people in the know this isn't really a problem and standard cooling is fine.
Once done pop up or we will sort a meeting out.
Regards
Re: K24/18 Hybrid Turbos + Ported Headers
Nice work, but defo sort out the Brakes for sure as thoe TT 4 pots are like tin cans !
6 pot GT3/GT2 set ups are the way to go
Re: K24/18 Hybrid Turbos + Ported Headers
Found this kit in the States, you know of anyone doing them in the UK?

The front hub assembly differs on the Turbo to the GT2/GT3 because of the 4WD, this may have an impact on a straight replacement. It may require Turbo S parts.
Thanks for correcting the link :thumb:
It's a pity they don't just do the calipers as the discs wouldn't last more than a few heavy trackday sessions (with the power and weight of a tuned Turbo)
He is right..... as I found out. 2 trackdays and the discs were cracked to hell!
Get some 6 pot calipers and get some 2 piece discs from
www.Reyland.co.uk
. Guys name is Martin and he is just making me some up now. Around half the price of the JZMactech discs and bell set up as well....
Good to see you taking it towards 650bhp on standard internals mate! all the best with the car
that is a cracking deal for that kit though. I think the rotors are from a 997 turbo, I've seen other US threads where that's the combo they sell, GT3 6 pot calipers & 997 TT discs, as the GT3 disc will not fit the 4wd cars.
The GT3 discs do kinda fit the 4wd car. I have them on. Just need a very slight machining...
I have them on my TT... but they are just not upto the job. They crack to hell!
Hence I am having Reyland do the conversion using the seperate bells and discs...
crap and very dirty pic. But thats a GT3 disc on a Turbo
